The catch-weight has nothing to do with the fear of losing his title. The WBA would not approve Paul Smith as a challenger because he is coming off back to back losses and is not ranked in their Top 15.

Which is why Ward picked him as an opponent and is why Ward should be stripped of his title. Ward has not had a title defense since the Dawson fight in 2012.

        hyypocrites, plain and simple. :ANYWORD:
Facepalm, did you criticize Ward the last four years for having nothing left to do at 168? No? Of course not because it's ok for Ward to stay in the division he chooses but not for others. Yet you use the word hypocrite while showcasing the sheer definition of it. F'ing casual fans kill me. Wait for Golovkin to have nothing left to fight for at 160 before you start your pointless bantering. At that point a move would be inexcusable til then he has a reason to remain at 160.

If Ward is being truthful in his sentiments here, then I think its a good move on his part.

We all know Ward-Smith is a sham fight anyway, so if he's going to be experiment with weight, at least do it in a fight that really has no impact on the division, or his resume

If he pulled this type of stunt against a Froch or another top 168 fighter, then i'd agree with people having a problem with it.

He's not losing anything by it, nor is Smith, as he's (seemingly) pulling a one-off Canelo and fighting a Supermiddleweight a few pounds north. The fans aren't losing anything either, as the fight was awful to start off with.

This is fine, but the title needs to be vacated.
