Fighters became complacent when they reach the top after paying a few dues. They stop giving ****s about fighting the best even when they're favored. We just learned Kovalev chose long term job security with HBO over risking fighting the best. This is undeniable fact.

Now that Kovalev has 3 of the championship belts and is recognised by most people as the No.1 LHW, he probably thinks he no longer needs to bend over backwards and do everything the opponents way to get this fight.

That doesn't mean he no longer wants it.

Where have you been living? Negotiations broke down multiple times already. And Gym already offered to continue negotiating as long they can maximize revenue with the network willing to offer the best fee.

Since Stevenson signed with Haymon there were no negotiations between GYM and Duva until after the purse bid was called.

Stevenson pulled out of a fight after the terms and purse had already been agreed upon by both sides.

Kovalev's promoter withdrew from a purse bid because she knew she had no chance of winning it and Kovalev could only fight on HBO.

It's a shame for this sport, because Kovalev was surfing over a surreal wave of admiration, since Stevenson signed a better deal with Showtime. But in fact, Kovalev signed his deal with HBO (AFTER) Stevenson went to Showtime, I didn't say before, I said Kovalev signed AFTER.
And now that Haymon manage to open more options for all boxers, Kovalev re-signed another contract with HBO (AFTER) his victory over Jean Pascal, which clearly show how team Kovalev were bluffing all along about Stevenson.
