My problem though is not because of rankings. Even Geale or another 'easier' fight would have been more than ok, but six months ago, so now we would be possibly talking about GGG or Canelo.

If Cotto wants to fight once a year though, then he needs a rather big name, or at least somebody who is making noise. Floyd understood that.

It is in his own interest, losing to GGG or Canelo wouldn't hurt his image too much, but if Cotto , for some reason, was to lose against Geale he'd lose a lot (if not all) of leverage and hype (see Cotto vs Trout, and now Cotto a couple of years older).

Oh if that's the case and the knee was 100% OK and he was ONLY wearing it to avoid a NEW injury, then surely logic would dictate that he would have been wearing a brace on BOTH knees, to y'know avoid a new injury and all? Because you never can tell which one of your supposedly 100% healthy knees will get injured.

Sergio is a good man and a great fighter ofc he isnt gonna make excuses.. fact is his knees were shot he had two major ops at least.. also one on his shoulder.

And to top it of he was forty years old.. Sergios style is all about movement.. I believe roy jones said no one can fight like he did vs chavez.. the guy was amazing and I wish Cotto fought him between the time of the williams up to the chavez fight.. because he would get his ass whipped

Cotto is a good fighter but not a legit MW till he faces the top dogs.. Martinez at that stage was not one and I would put money on even an average Mw like jacobs beating him on thwt night

He was only on his feet for 27 minutes. Can someone show these fools the knockdown in round 9 where Sergio didn't even get knocked down? His knee nearly hit the canvas but... he stood up. Yeah, a guy with a bad knee is going to do that lol. Keep trying haters.
Lets be honest knee injuries are some of the worse for athletes.. be it from boxing..mma.. football whatever..

Sergio looked awful the fight prior to the cotto fight as well..

For someone who's whole game was about using his feet and movment.. you dont think two major surgeries hurt that??

He went into the fight a 3-1 underdog and people knew about the Martin fight and the knee surgeries. When you still pick that guy to win it makes you an idiot then, not "well Sergio was hurt so it doesn't count." Also, he was fine the guy ran across the ring in the 6th and fought the rest of the fight without even touching the canvas. Even in the 9th when he got "knocked down" his knee or glove still never hit the canvas. An injured knee is what happened to Yuri Foreman vs Cotto. Sergio wasn't injured he was and apparently still is sore and you guys are falling for it.

Sergio needed headgear against Cotto. Keep in mind, Chavez Jr. is one of Sergio's claims to fame. As I mentioned all along, Sergio was a great journeyman killa. Cotto just was not that Journeyman.

Headgear and better boxing ability would have helped Sergio more than that knee brace. It's easy to look sweet when you are fighting Fonfara's son.

If you compare Sergio's movement in the Cotto fight, he does not look very different from his movement PRIOR to the injury. He was being Maravilla til Cotto turned his music off with a left hook.
