It sucks that this fight won't be happening anytime soon, this was one of those fights that is a must see. I'm just happy that May vs Pac got made and Matthysse vs Provodnikov got made as well. Hey I guess we can't have it all.

Ok, he subsequently got paid more by Haymon for fighting Sukhotsky and Bika than Duva was going to pay him for fighting Kovalev.
But that's peanuts compared to what he could have earned by beating Krusher then going on to BHop and Pascal with all 4 belts on the line both times.
IF he and Haymon had believed he was capable of doing it, of course.Comment

True. HBO killed this fight by not putting up enough money. Now they killed it again with this their way or the highway approach and using Kathy Duva as their pawn.Comment

There was nothing premature about attacking Stevenson for pulling out of fighting Kovalev last year. That was a blatent duck.

I interpreted Ray's post as an acknowledgement that duva/kov are now ducking the fight.
Maybe the word premature is bad.Comment

Haymon could not put this fight on any network other than Showtime for it to be PPV in Canada or at least Quebec. It is impossible to block out an OTA channel that anyone can get with a 5 buck antenna. Seeing as it cannot be on a free network channel, HBO would have the lead in negotiations as they are the only way to go with a PPV option in Canada. Unless Haymon goes to Showtime. But it will not be a PBC fight.
Some posters see that and have just accepted it. Others are doing everything they can to shift this for whatever reasons.Comment

I'm not trying to shift it. I am saying that no one is without blame in this situation, from Duva to GYM to WBC to HBO. They all share in the blame. I said in an earlier post that I believe Duva thought that GYM would never accept to fight Kovalev under any circumstances. She was out to get Stevenson to vacate the title. Her bluff was called and now she has to deal with it. IT is just another typical day in the boxing world when it comes to getting a top quality fight signed. And crap like THAT is why boxing will never again attain the position it once had in the world of sports.Comment

Duva asked for the mandatory status, then pulled out of the purse bid. SHe is either incompetent and cheap or, lying and covering up for HBO.Comment

OK. There was a lot of blame to go around when this first fell apart and Stevenson went with haymon/showtime according to Rick Reeno. Now, I don't know how you can fault Stevenson/haymon.

I'm trying to stay as impartial as possible, because I like both Stev and Kov and I do not believe either man is afraid of the other but it's clear, from everything I've read including these letters that Duvas is the one backing out. For what? Only time will tell.Comment
