The purse bid was not 50/50 no purse bid between a mandatory and a champion for the WBC is 50/50. Perhaps you should read the full break down of this situation not the abbreviated version Boxing Scene put up. Her proposal for 50/50 was sent to him AFTER she turned down the purse bid option which is why she brought up the viewership and stuff of the sort, none of which would matter towards a purse bid directly. But ok...
"Had the fight gone to the bid, the fighters would have split the winning figure 50-50 and the winning promoter would control all aspects of the promotion, including all the revenue streams and determining when, where and on what television network the bout would take"
Can't really call this a duck. It's obvious Kovalev has a contract with HBO and fighting on another network, especially a PBC network, isn't going to fly with HBO. Food for thought: why can't both teams negotiate without a purse bid? If Stevenson isn't tied to any network like they say, why can't team stevenson agree for the fight to be on HBO? I'm not buying this "we want the fight" and "they're" walking away stuff.
That's probably what Duva was expecting to happen. She said in her counter offer that it would be ppv on HBO, with a 50/50 split. So that would probably have meant more money for Stevenson than he would get with PBC.

Not only was the purse bid to be 50/50, but also allowed for Kovalev to also first make his mandatory defense vs. Mohammedi and for Stevenson to make a voluntary defense. Literally the only thing that stood—and still stands—in the way of the fight happening was the possibility of it not taking place on HBO.
Does anyone know why Main Event pulled out, specifically?
Loyalty to HBO. If they lost the purse bid the fight would have to be on Showtime PPV and Kovalev is going to sign an extension with HBO soon.
The fact that this EASILY would be more money than Kovalev would ever make in his entire career is what actually pisses me off. Isn't your promoter supposed to get you the most money? PBC would have overpaid in the purse bid to get this bout. Kovalev would be stinking rich in a fight he would more than likely win. What a travesty by Duva and Main events.
