I think being with Haymon and all Khan is closer to a May-Pac fight. Winner or even the loser should work. I think Amir senses that so he is saving himself from Brook whose counter punching may end that dream. So, in that regards it is the right fight at the right time. Otherwise why duck Brook? He isn't like a boogeyman like say Maidana and Matthysse?
