Comments Thread For: Mayweather: It Only Counts in The Ring, Not in Sparring

Las Vegas, Nevada - WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) is not fixated on what happens during his sparring sessions.

Mayweather is preparing for his May 2nd mega-fight against WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38KOs), at the MGM Grand.

Over the last few weeks, there have been numerous stories with respect to Mayweather's sparring sessions. Stories of Mayweather beating down sparring partners, stories of Mayweather being beat down, and stories of injuries being suffered from round sessions.

People act like the world is coming to an end if they hear rumors of a fighter getting worked in sparring. Do you think Ali looked perfect in every session? I recall there were times where Ali looked like crap, but that didn't mean he lost the fight he was training for.

This is a contact sport. It's what they do. A chef will overcook a piece of meat, a baker add too much flour to a batter, an accountant miss an itemization, a designer experiencing creative block....a boxer may or may not get hit in sparring, have a day feeling lethargic. This is their everyday job and they cannot look the same everyday. Keyboard warriors, go to a gym or workout at home 5-6 times a week for 8 weeks and film each session. Let me know if you had NO moments of feeling tired, weak, uninspired.

That's why a Pacquiao or Mayweather will release photos and video of when they're feeling and looking great.

Floyd is right about this but him saying this suggests the training camp was tough for him.

Floyd's comments lend credibility to the rumor that he might have gotten worked over here and there in sparring.

Pacquiao skipping a WHOLE WEEK of sparring is really one of the most bizarre things leading up to this fight. The whole build up is bizarre down to tickets still not being put on sale and everything in between.

Hardest training of his career as he and his minions has boldly admitted....all that at age 38 too? Common sense would tell you his ass was whooped in sessions. And that's not necessarily a bad thing at all.

                I know, right?

Though, it's not like he's having to take days off, or anything.

Good points. Hopefully the tough camp works in his favor.
