That's not a good outcome for anyone except Beterbiev.

These two still have to get mandatories out of the way so there wasn't going to be any contract put together this far in advance.

It's not like they're Pacquiao and Mayweather. It's big money for both of them and Stevenson in particular is at an age where the time to make big money is running out. They'll negotiate at some point and I think there'll be too much money for them to walk away from.

The thing that pisses me off the most about this is how the media got ****** into Duva's words hook line and sinker. Since Al Haymon doesn't speak to the media, and since Yvon Michel's media presence is less here in the States than it is in Québec, she was able to manipulate every quote, word, and action out of Team Stevenson. Let's not forget that it was GYM who put Kovalev on one of Adonis' undercards ON HBO (his fight against IS when AS fought TB). Let's also not forget that by Stevenson's run, it gave Kovalev a rise in popularity when, honestly, he can't draw flies. He's a household name in his own house...that's about it. Stevenson, although not the draw of Bute or Pascal, still draws good crowds in a market that has SMART fans who also have the option of seeing the fights at the Cage Aux Sport bars which are EVERYWHERE in the province. So his ratings, popularity, and all that nonsense is just that from Duva...nonsense. You go to RDS.com (the Québec ESPN) and Stevenson is on the front page frequently.

Stevenson simply took a better deal in the short term by fighting Fonfara on SHO for DOUBLE the money that he was offered to fight both Fonfara AND Kovalev on HBO in 2013. I mean...what would you do???

Now that he has kept winning (his end of the bargain)...and since Kovalev rose his brand by going to fight other fighters who draw in their regions (Hopkins and Pascal)...the fight can go to a purse bid for MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more money than it would've produced 2 years ago.

Both guys get ****** rich...the fans get a good fight. Who cares what network it's on? If Stevenson wins, he's unified and goes back to SHO/PBC exclusively.

If Kovalev wins, he goes back to HBO unified and his brand is even BIGGER. HBO can reap the rewards with no risk.

The only thing HBO would lose in the short term are the rewards of fights against guys like Mohammedi? A guy, as I said before, that Sukhotsky knocked out in 2 rounds!!! Yes, the same Sukhotsky that Stevenson was blasted for facing!!!

HBO already got its "money fights" out of Kovalev from the Hopkins and Pascal fights (fights where Kovalev didn't make nearly as much as he should've).

Looks to me like a the purse-split as mandatory (80-20) is too Little for Main Events hence the 50-50 offer.

Duva does have a point regarding the currency fluctuations that definetely presents a major financial risk with the fight first taking place in 6 months or more.

Sadly for the fans, Stevenson is sent back to the hobo-trail.
