Kovalev's HBO contract expired after the Pascal fight. There was no reason to get another HBO contract right away if Kovalev and Main Events were okay with fighting off HBO.

Did you read? There's a contract with HBO. And Main Events wasnt gonna outbid Haymon so the fight was gonna happen off HBO. Which means a violation of the contract. So no, its not what a fighter wants as long as there is a contract. Only way this happens is if HBO grants an exemption for this fight and that isnt gonna happen. They arent gonna allow their rival network make money off of their fighter.

Dan Rafael said a couple weeks ago Kovalev was free and negotiating an extension with HBO. Did he sign an extension recently knowing it would eliminate any chance of the Stevenson fight?

A year and a half ago, Stevenson chose the security of Haymon paychecks instead of risking it against Kovalev.

Today, Kovalev is choosing the security of HBO paychecks instead of risking it against Stevenson.

I think this is the most fair minded way of putting it.

However, if you blamed Stevenson for his actions, now you have to let Kovalev have it.

Kovalev was out of contract for hbo and team stevenson had every right to ask for a purse bid. they did so because Main Events requested mandatory status. Negotiations fell apart last time, the purse bid made sense. stop making excuses.
