Why not? Kovalev obviously wants the fight. He was ready to fight Adonis 1.5 years ago. Adonis now says he wants the fight...... do you really think they're going to let their managers/promoters/networks stop them from trying to achieve greatness?

If they both want the fight, they'll get the fight. That's the way it works in boxing. When fights get blocked by Haymon/HBO, etc..... There's always one fighter who doesn't want it. Last time, Adonis clearly didn't want it. Quillin against Korobov, etc... Clearly didn't want it. LSC against Rigo clearly didn't want it, etc

Kovalev is not going to let ME/HBO NOT let him fight Adonis. They're going to have to let him fight off HBO for one fight if that's the only way he can fight Adonis.

You have to appease your stars. They'll have no choice. Kovalev wants the fight.

Did you read? There's a contract with HBO. And Main Events wasnt gonna outbid Haymon so the fight was gonna happen off HBO. Which means a violation of the contract. So no, its not what a fighter wants as long as there is a contract. Only way this happens is if HBO grants an exemption for this fight and that isnt gonna happen. They arent gonna allow their rival network make money off of their fighter.

They are though. They literally work out of Duva's house.

They will most certainly allow that or they'll be disappointed when the time comes for Kovalev to sign another contract with them.

You think he can't sign with Haymon... or anyone else? Lol. His current/new HBO contract is not forever. If they screw him out of getting an opportunity to fight the lineal champ in the biggest fight in the division....... Nothing is stopping him from saying BYE-BYE to both HBO AND Duva when his contract expires.

Kovalev's HBO contract expired after the Pascal fight. There was no reason to get another HBO contract right away if Kovalev and Main Events were okay with fighting off HBO.
