Comments Thread For: Angel Garcia: Peterson Ran, Can't Win Fight Like That

NEW YORK – Angel Garcia scoffed at the idea Lamont Peterson beat his son Saturday night at Barclays Center.

“I thought Peterson ran, man,” Angel Garcia said following Danny Garcia’s majority decision win in their 12-round welterweight fight. “I could tell what the game plan was for them. It was to run for the first half and then try to come strong at the end, steal the round in the last 30 seconds, 40 seconds, maybe [with] a minute [left].

I had peterson by 2 points

116-113 was my scorecard. Still a draw could had been acceptable. But garcia did not win this fight. Still Both are 2 BUMS.

If you've got good legs, it's smart to utilise them. But when you're barely landing a punch in return, that's not boxing to me. And I say this as someone who loves Lamont and dislikes Danny. Lamont should have mixed it a bit more in the first half of the fight.

Certain sections are so in thrall with the idea of slickness that they fail to penalise non-engagement. See Lara-Canelo.

You cannot simply move non-stop and call it ring generalship.

            2 poor performances from Garcia.

            Something needs to change.

Lamont had a good game plan to move and frustrate Danny early on but he didn't put in enough work during those rounds to really win much of anything, and when he did decide to attack and press the fight we learned that he was too big and sharp for Danny to muscle or pick off like Judah or Matthysse, it looked like he could have started that much earlier maybe after 3 or 4 and easily won a decision but he waited too long. I still had Pet up 115-113 or at least a draw but he did that to himself

Garcia is what he is always going to be. He is the top of the light welters but only barely. Garcia has had a history of barely winning fights, or getting split or majority decisions. You have to give him credit for winning every time, but I wonder if uncle al has anything to do with that. Oh well, as soon as he steps up to a pacquiao or a Terance Crawford,he will be exposed as a good boxerbut not quite good enough for the next level.

I give Garcia all the credit in the world for wooping Mattys ass, but since then...

Then now he has to move to 147 and he will have a very tough time there.

                  Forget Floyd and Pacquiao.

Khan,Brook,Porter,Thurman,Maidana all beat him. I think he would beat Guerrero; barely.

Lots of talk of Peterson running and he did but what about Garcia chasing missing wide shots during that time, not sure how Garcia won all the early rounds by doing very little himself looked even then Lamont took over.
