Did Roberto Duran face the same backlash as Victor Ortiz did for quitting mid fight?

I disagree. People are a lot more forgiving today than they were then.

That ****ed up Duran's whole life.

In the age of mass media, somebody quitting in a fringe sport is just a blip on the screen.

Back then this fight meant a lot more.

That thing was terrible. They built up the meeting like this giant thing, but it was the same diarrhea excuse we've known forever. And they barely showed what Duran had to say. Instead we heard Leonard's voice over for half of Duran's speech.

I actually think it would be worse now if the exact same turn of events happened today. People are the exact same *******s they were then for the most part, when it comes to things like that.

Now it could not just be in some HBO fight like Ortiz-Maidana it would have to be in a huge event with huge stars but those dudes would never live it down.

There are a number of ESPN 30for30 films and all those I have seen have been excellent documentaries. If you are at all interested in soccer, I recommend watching The Two Escobars. Incredible documentary.

It was a little too focused on Leonard, but overall it is well worth watching. It also gives an excellent idea of how popular boxing was back then compared to today. Leonard - Duran 1 and 2 were front page news in newspapers and magazines, it was headline news on television, it made headlines around the world.

So someone with knowledge of the time (era) did Duran get dissed like current fighters do/have for quitting? If so, what changed things? How did u feel fan or not at the time?
yes, even more so because he was a better, more popular fighter - that wasn't even taking a beating or even losing.

Problem with the 30 for 30 is they made it seem like it still bothers duran and Leonard would forgive him and tell him it's ok. When the reality is duran don't care one bit but it still drives Leonard crazy.

Leonard seems like nice/honest guy, I bet as a fighter tho it probably eats away at him...
