Did Roberto Duran face the same backlash as Victor Ortiz did for quitting mid fight?

I thought the 30-30 was very good, but then again SRL is my all time favorite.

No comparison between Duran and Ortiz. Partly because Duran was a great champion already. If Floyd or Manny pulled that May 2, like Duran, they'd always be associated with it and it'd be way bigger than Ortiz because he's a relative nobody. BUT it still wouldn't be as bad as Duran because boxing isn't as big anymore. Like somebody said above, it's a fringe sport. But because people have so many choices now in everything, nothing seems as important anymore. Remember when the Olympics were a big deal? Nobody really gives a ***** anymore.

None of them got the same backlash as today , because off no internet .

They would not be the heroes they are today if the internet was around back then , they would be bashed from pillar to post by opposing fans like every top liner today .

      Quite pitiful really .

Probably because Duran had won 72 ****ING FIGHTS by the time of "No Mas." And speaking of that the term "No Mas" is literally linked with Duran forever, so how is that not backlash?

Yeah, you can tell it does. That fight will always be remembered for Duran quitting, not for Leonard winning the rematch.

ray made him quit, tommy koed him cold, benitez made him look like an amateur, and hagler beat him pillar to post. thats 1-5 against the best fighters of his era..

A past prime lightweight vs welter and middleweight greats.

Duran was up after 12 vs Hagler. If he woulda weseled out of a 15 rounder like Leonard did he woulda won. Pillar to post my ass.

Yes Duran did have to take lots of **** over that and the proof is your giving him **** over it after all these years. There are some differences. Duran quit from frustration while Ortiz quit from a beating. Duran was one of the greatest fighters in history. He had so many fights in which he showed tremendous courage before his quit and after his quit that most fans forgive him that one quit. Ortiz showed courage in a few fights but mostly he has shown to be an unreliable quitter with very little will to win. Ortiz can punch very hard but nobody will ever call him a great fighter or bet much money on him when he fights.
