I hope he goes ahead and retires. I have great respect for this guy and never want to see him have another night like against Cotto. It can't be worth it.

Martinez was promoted, and protected excellently by DiBella, so much so that most boxing fans, and pundits were fooled into believing he was a top pound for pound boxer.

But let's take a look back at his resume, shall we?

Paul Williams, who walked into shots and was a one-trick pony. Pavlik, who was LITERALLY fresh outta rehab (and right on his way back post-fight), and was losing until Pavlik was cut.

After winning the strap, DiBella went into protective mode overdrive - rematching Williams, Macklin, Barker, Dzindzurik (KO'd by Brian Vera), and of course Chavez, probably his best win!!!

It was hilarious seeing how much he was hyped on here.

      Retire, you ducker; retire.

Oh, and the first 40ish fights of Sergio's career? Well, the one lone name that had meaning, made him his helpless little *****, and left him knocked out on his feet, ice cold - Margarito.

Good luck naming the other 39.

I hope he is healthy whether he retires or comes back. Especially if he comes back.

in all truth we dont have a pain gauge it hasnt been invented yet. doctors relay on the person stating the truth about there pain and then look at MRI's and x-rays to see what is wrong. sergio knew what was going on and he played all of boxing and himself by deciding to hide it from everyone that is why he went to spain. if you think spain cant read an MRI just as good as the US doctors there is something wrong with you.
Smh dude you dont shiet about boxing or fighting for that matter. Most likely never been in a simple fist fight judging by ur 1st paragraph, if you did you would know you can breaka hand or twist a knee without knowing n still fight on plain adrenaline..its when ur heart rate drops when you start feeling the injuries. As for the US or Spain doctors..doesnt matter at this point. Fight happened.

Wow Sergio Martinez overrated!??Amir Khan is what you call overrated.

Sergio is one helluva fightrr and no doubt in my mind he makes the HOF. Look at his opposition and how he performed against the top guys, dude was high as p4p#3 most lists and was facing higher caliber guys then Floyd and Pac. As a fan i hate to see Sergio go but its time to hang em up, he has nothing left to prove..he made his mark and hes not exactly young nemore.

You know a fighters top notch when haters live vicariously thru his opponents instead of lacing em up themselves and showing us all how its done. Chumps.

If he can't get a Mickey Rourke special to end his career with, dude should walk. I don't want to see Sergio go out losing to a bum. At least with Cotto he went out against a name.

Sam Soliman tore ligaments in his knee during the Taylor fight and was able to do that. Stop pretending that .gif proves something.

lol been in plenty of fights man... and i dont hide behind keyboards either. you talk about breaking fists and twisting hands (without knowing yes this is true but not the case here ) but it looks like you dont know shiet about what happen here he was aware that his knees were shot to shiet and still fought that way is what he is saying now. they went to spain and got seen there so they didnt stop the fight from happening maybe they did or he really thought he was getting better treatment from spain (no one will know for a fact unless he tells us what happen)

now everyone is acting like martinez just fell down in the first round and cotto was just looking at him and threw no punches by the way most on here talk. bottom line and my opinion is he came in the fight with ok knees as he was moving fine and got knocked and did stress the knees but if he was 90 he couldnt do what he did in that img i posted.
