Would Golden Boy Promotions Be Completely Dead...

I think I'll take Golden Boy in that race.
De La Hoya is a boxing guy. If he wasn't in it for the long haul, he could've taken the reported $100 million Schaefer was offering him back in rehab and been done with it.
Haymon is a businessman. He's probably only in it as long as he's got some tv network or group of venture capitalists overspending on his fighters so that his "adviser" percentage is fat and juicy.Comment

Canelo undercards wouldn't be a bad way to go about it, especially now that he's back on HBO.
Frankie Gomez will certainly get some attention being on the Canelo-Kirland/May-Pac replay card, fighting live in front of 30,000-40,000 fans.
And in September - when presumably Mayweather and Pacquiao are sitting at home counting their money and taking the rest of the year off - Golden Boy could stage a PPV event with Canelo and have an undercard with featuring the likes of Frankie Gomez, Francisco Vargas, Joseph Diaz, Diego De La Hoya, or whoever.Comment

I agree with your point about local fans and fighters.Good post - and just to piggy back off your last point..GBP has never really strayed from what they were best at and that is connecting with locals fans and putting on local fights. To me this is what GBP has been about - very organic approach and they still personally reach out to customers about their cards. They give great deals/packages, offer access to their fights/fighters...a lot of good stuff when trying to have to build new talent. This is route that is going to help them work their way back - they still put weight into the "all boxing is local" idea. Nationally, they are going to have to wait until some of their prospect come around. I expect Frankie Gomez to be the first one to get a good push..great fight for him against Soto coming up.
anyway, Oscar is still Golden with a coat of Teflon, it doesn't matter what this dude does people still seem to gravitate toward him. There will always be a group of ambitious fighters who hope/want to go the "Oscar route" and take on whoever.
They're doing a good job of that in So. Cal that with the Fantasy Springs Casino and Belasco Theatre cards.
They tried to put Matthysse-Provodnikov at StubHub but for well-known reasons they couldn't get the date.
It sounds like if Orlando Salido wins this weekend, GBP is going to try to make a fight for Francisco Vargas at StubHub in June or July.Comment
