  • Comments Thread For: Danny Garcia: I Hope To Be at 147 By Next Summer

WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17KOs) is hoping to make his welterweight debut by next summer. Garcia is returning this weekend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. He will take on IBF junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson in a catch-weight bout. None of their titles are at stake as the two boxers agreed to face each other at 143-pounds.

This is the second fight in row where Garcia is fighting above the junior welterweight limit, but he doesn't intend to move up to the welterweight division in the near future.

wtf you dont get to baby step into a division by catchweighting everyone meanwhile holding the belt hostage, Either put them on the line at 140 or move on up to the full 147 and campaign their.

That headline makes it sound like he means 2016, and unless I read something wrong he said this summer.

He's doing this cause Floyd will be retired by next summer and he'll have a chance to get a belt then.

Next summer? Why you need to go @147 when you have a chance of life time having a belt and keep fighting at catch weight?

Read the article. He says "by the summer" as in this summer.
