  • Comments Thread For: Andre Ward-Marco Antonio Periban in Play For 6/20?

According to Mexican promoter Osvaldo Kuchle of Promociones Del Pueblo, there are ongoing discussions to have his fighter, Marco Antonio Periban (21-3-1, 13KOs), take on WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs), who returns on June 20th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California

Ward has been inactive since November 2013 when he won a twelve round decision over Edwin Rodriguez. Periban was knocked out by James DeGale in the third round of their IBF eliminator last November. He returned to the ring on March 14th in Mexico and won an easy six round decision over Octavio Castro.

        Not bad for a tuneup.

Tune up and on their dime... so that's cool with me.

But the fact he's still a super champion and this is a title fight is a joke with the inactivity

                Pathetic opponent.

Periban has just one win in his last five fights.

It's not necessarily a title fight. Usually **** tuneups like this aren't approved by sanctioning bodies. Ward will probably keep his belt, but I doubt the WBA will let the title be on the line for this one fight.
