Is the black demographic not allowed to watch his fights on hbo? I'm sure Floyd never fought on BET.

He appeared on 106 and Park if I recall but never fought there. Plus he was with Top Rank why would he need to?

Fact of the matter is, Ward cleaned out his division, rose to #2 pound for pound and still couldn't make a name for himself. It's time to try something new and who better to try to get the black demographic behind you than Jay Z?

Roc nation will make him a star no doubt about that and i fully expect him to be in big fights the next couple years and he will still take over number 1 pound for pound when floyd retires
-Signs extension with goosen then tries to bail on it
-wants an absurd amount of money to fight tune ups

        You're right, I don't get it either.

You have to realize there are still a lot of people in the US without HBO or Showtime. Ward is a boring fighter most of the time. He doesn't have all that much charisma. The one thing he has going for him is he is a black American fighter. People can identify with him as such.

This fight is going to be a tune-up anyway. He won't be fighting anyone serious.

I agree with you in part, but ward is too boring for the younger generation they won't tune in for more than a few rounds.

The big fight networks are getting more particular in the fights they are accepting. Ward was refused by both HBO and Showtime, Khan-Algieri has been refused by Showtime, HBO asking Cotto for a guarantee of a Canelo fight before agreeing to broadcast his voluntary. Basically they are telling fighters that unless they choose to have a competitive fight that will bring in the viewers at a reasonable price, they can go and buy their own time on some other network and lose their own shirt.

People forget how much 50 cent boosted Mayweather's fan base.

Once he walked out with 50 people started taking notice, the entire hip hop community did, which is very large. Rappers want to be athletes and athletes want to be rappers, that's how it works.

The same thing happened with Broner, his videos got put on websites like Worldstar and suddenly everyone knew about him, those vids got millions of views.

BET is pretty much free, you don't have to pay for it like HBO, something I haven't even had for years. Young people watch it as well from all races, from all economic backgrounds, not just a few limited watching HBO or Showtime.

This is like saying they are going to take Juan Manual Marquez off Showtime and put him on Telemundo...and that they had to buy the time slot from Telemundo and could broadcast anything they want LOL. Hey Andre how do you feel about "The Man" now?
