Comments Thread For: Tony Thompson: I Want Wilder, He Will Nap Like Price!

BoxingScene caught up with top rated and ageless #10 WBC heavyweight contender Tony Thompson, coming off his recent TKO victory over gold medalist Odlanier Solis in Turkey this past February:

Boxing Scene: Congratulations on your second victory over Solis. Any plans for your next bout?

TT: I want Deontay Wilder. I respect the fact that he's picked up the WBC title but let's see what he does against someone that can take his punch and hit back. Look at his resume and look at mine, it's not even close. I'd be 45-0 with 45KO's if I fought his level of competition my whole career. I guarantee one thing, if we fight he will take a nice nap in the ring before ever hearing a final bell.

"what I really want to do is win a world title on the Premiere Boxing Champions series on network TV so I can go ahead and sell some grills or something!"
That got me thinking - why is this guy not with Haymon Yet? He's gold.

And yes, I'd like to see him in there against Wilder and all the other contenders he mentioned. Throw Haye in there as well. Joshua, though... that's some risky, risky business. Could be another Price waiting to happen. Joshua needs to prove he can go 10-12 rounds with Johnson first before fighting someone hungry like Thompson who can always spoil a party.

Just because a guy is a champion, that doesn't mean every fight or defense has to be on PPV. So I would welcome this fight on NBC to help setup a PPV mega title fight vs the likes of Wlad, Wilder, Haye, etc.

Meh. It'd be okay, but I don't think Thompson stands much chance.

I am a fan of Tony Thompson but...

          Wilder is no David Price.

Wilder is very limited but would be able to stop TT inside 6 rounds.

Using David Price as some kind of bench mark for boxing credibility is not advisable.

            Thompson's earned a shot

I doubt Wilder & Haymon will let him near the title

Wilder has already ducked TT before.

It is a solid fight if you are building toward Wlad, he needs to get used to be long guys and Thimpson is a solid guy that fits that criteria.

I think Thompson would have real issues with Wilder's explosiveness or athleticism (whatever you want to call it).

You gotta love Thompson. And he'd have a good shot against any of them and against Fury as well.

I think he had a legit shot 3-4 years ago but Wilder has improved so much since.

But if he does beat Wilder I feel sorry for his wife.
