Is Loma that good, was Russell having a bad night vs Loma or was Gonzalez overrated?

Jhonny is just old now. He's a 15 year vet with 65 fights. He happened to catch Mares at the perfect moment and hasn't looked great since. He's been kod before. Russell just caught Jhonny at the perfect moment and looked impressive, but he's still not a top talent.

Not going to take anything away from Russell -- dude is obviously a very, very talented boxer.

That said he simply did what he was supposed to last night. Gonzalez's only shot was to land something big. A homerun. Hell that was his only shot against Mares and it worked out that time, but realistically he had little chance against Russell.

        Loaded question.

First off, Loma is that good. He is, his style and athleticism are special.

Was Russel having a bad night against Lomachenko? Who knows but I don't think it would matter much. Russel's hand speed and power were muffled by Lomachenko's athleticism and boxing abilities. And I believe it would remain so even if Russel was at his very best or not.

Gonzalez was a good win but I still don't get how Jhonny connects to Lomachenko, I just don't. This is the second thread regarding the matter and I still believe Jhonny and Lomachenko are two completely different fighters. Thus, Russel's victory and loss, respectively, have absolutely nothing in common.

Russel's loss to Lomachenko proved Lomachenko was the better man that night and Russel's victory over Jhonny Gonzalez proves he was the better man himself that night, nothing more nor less.

Gonzalez was both underrated and overrated, odd, but true imo. He was overrated by me especially because I thought his chin wouldn't get cracked against a smaller Russel, underrated because people have never watched him aside from the Abner fight and believe they know who he is as a fighter(some type of brawler, crazy but people got fooled by his record). Jhonny was always a great fighter on the outside to mid range, however his undoing was his willingness to trade whenever the opportunity arose and usually got caught due to his recklessness. On top of that add the fact that his chin has always been the primary culprit behind his losses and you have a fighter whom constantly teeters between an explosive KO, or getting explosively KO'd himself. Exactly what happened this past Saturday.

But Damn! That was a legitimate featherweight there, seasoned and dangerous. And Russell walked through him. That has to count for something.

Lomachenko outclassed him in every department from the beginning to the last round where he came near to stopping russel.
It was a very impressive victory from lomachenko in only his 3 pro fight.
Maybe loma gets more cred as russel will keep winning.

Watching this again just proved that Russell's excuse that his strength and conditioning coach was crap is BS. The amount of body work that Loma did on him was huge.

Russell is elite at featherweight it seems but Gonzalez was overrated a bit, though still a very good win over a dangerous guy on the best run of his career.

But I think the overarching point of the featherweight scene at the minute is that Loma is a special special fighter.

I think we are looking at a Sugar Ray Robinson/Manny Pacquiao/Roy Jones/Pernell Whitaker kind of talent here in Lomachenko.
All of this is very simple. Size difference. Lomo is twice the size of Russle, and he isnt big and slow, to where Gary can potshot and run. Gary and Lomo are equally talented to me. But one guy is so much bigger, Gary cant even get close enough to land anything meaningful on Lomo. Anytim Lomo fights that little man, it will look like a big brother sonning a little brother. Im surprised no one talks about this..

I voted Loma was that good. Both fighters trained hard for an important fight and Loma was a lot better and won easily. Russell is a very good fighter with lightning fast hands and power but with his experience Loma is better. The Russells complaining about their trainer just sounds like an excuse. I would pick Loma to win a rematch.

Didn't they weigh the same going into the ring? Russell was lean and hard. If both fighters carry no extra bodyfat and they weigh the same then they are the same size. Lomo is taller but they are the same weight so neither is bigger.

Loma is good and Gonzo is overrated and old. Russell is an average as shit talent, only has handspeed, which Loma completely negated and turned upside down and fed Cherry his own fists.

Russell beating the **** outta' Johnny certainly has not hurt Lomachenko's stock.

Any of the most optimistic hopes for Vasyl's future may very well turn out to be true.

It sez on boxrec that he's 27 right now. If that is accurate, he should fight 4 times a year for a couple of years and settle the matter, if he intends to.

                      That would be awesome.
