He taught Rigondeaux, James Toney, Israel Vasquez, Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan everything they know.

Top 5 trainer of all time.

I think Amir Khan is definitely one example of an answer to your thread title. But then did Roach teach Amir his fundamentals and really change his style that much? I don't think so. Don't get me wrong he tweaked him significantly but fighters at that point do not change their basic style much. If I was generalising I would say he got Khan in better physical condition, raised his overall level by sparring him with top guys, changed his mentality, and got him to hold his hands a little higher. Virgil has built on that platform further by getting him to change his mentality further, especially about his defensive work, and most crucially for me spending much more time in the gym working on his skills.

But I am sure you could ask make this thread for any trainer in boxing history and the answer will probably be no one. Eddie Futch is the only one who I can think of from the top my head that may have done it, but even then I believe he picked lots of guys up when they were already established like Roach.

There are different types of great trainers, I think Roach is very adaptable and one of the best around. Has he fit with every fighter he has ever trained, hell no! But for me his successes far outweigh his negative points.

Nacho with the Marquez brothers, Zaragoza, etc. Now that I think about it may have 5. To be honest, unless that trainer has trained them from amateur and then polished them up and taken them to championships in the pro's then this thread is honestly useless.

Like I said in my previous post, there are different types of great trainers. Floyd Snr is a great trainer because he made one of the best fighters in the history of the sport, but in my opinion he is best at training an exact prototype of himself, which Floyd Jnr became, just with more physical gifts and perfected the style further. But when he has trained other fighters he has had patchy success to say the least, I think mostly because he has a big ego and isn't adaptable.

You pretty much have to have a relationship with young amateurs like Virgil Hunter and Andre Ward, or Barry Hunter and the Peterson brothers, for that to happen. It's exactly why Steward was able to do so with guys like Hearns, Kronk gym was a hot bed for amateurs.

Roach has always been in the pro game, so it's pretty obvious why he hasnt trained guys who are completely green. Plus there's more money in training pros. Why would Roach step backwards and work with completely green amateurs.

Roach can't take a cab driver and make them a world champ, as of right now the only trainer who is cable and has done this is nacho. Time and time again nacho has proven that he is one of the top trainers. Roach and floyd snr are overrated as hell

Great question. I can't name any fighter Roach has developed from scratch. Now, Nacho, and Emmanuel Stewart, yes no doubt they have a resume that supports great trainers.

Someone mentioned what Freddie has done for Cotto. He beat an old and injured sergio. Come on people, you can't believe that.

I think Freddie and Floyd sr., is overrated as trainers, but I lean more to Sr., since he taught Floyd the science of boxing. He understands defense, and position.

Maybe if I do some digging I might can find a couple. I can't name any at this point though. I truly think that was great question.
