Sometime ago when Floyd went from 'pretty boy' to 'money' he explained that it was a character or persona to raise his profile and make more money. It worked brilliantly. He hasn't lost, he's become the highest paid athlete in the world, has the highest ppvs in history, after this fight he will have the top three spots for ppv's sold. So it was an unmitigated success. Look at the amount of people that watch boxing ppv's when he's on them. For all of Manny supposed goodness he still cannot sell close to 'money'. That's why he's the Aside unquestioned and the betting favorite. Wetter you like it or not, sometimes you gotta tip your cap.Look at where you're at now...a boxing site talking about him. Floyd has been carrying boxing like it or not.
Floyd seems humble. Has he changed?

Too bad Manny's not a trash talker. If they both got into some serious trash talking, this fight would generate even more views and raise the money stakes even higher.
Floyd is content on letting Freddie do all the trash talking.
Makes it easy for him to focus his energy on training.Comment

This is what I think too.
It is quite striking how different his approach has been lately, and people can have their own opinions obviously but I agree with this here. This is the biggest fight of his life and career, tons of pressure from tons of people...acting like his Pretty Boy/Money persona would make him look ******. That act has already gotten old anyway, it would make him look ****** now. For him to look great this approach to this fight is what is necessary I believe.
Not because he is scared of Manny or not confident in winning for once, because once the bell goes/after the first shots land, and the nerves disappear, he can more than handle himself in the ring and we all know that.
Not because he is worried about backfire either like the saying 'keep your words sweet in case you end up eating them', maybe to a degree, but what it is all about in my opinion is an attempt to look like the great fighter he claims to be as the world watches.
Drop the old act, stop throwing money at cameras and bragging about cars etc...stop all that, act humble, beat your arch nemesis and then say with class "I told you". That is what I feel Floyd is trying to do.
Not saying he is in no way concerned about this fight or will 100% win it...just saying I think this is most likely what this recent change in attitude is about for the build up, the fight itself is a different matter of discussion.Comment

I think his change has been most pronounced since the interview with Rachel Nicholls.
He did himself no favors in that interview and since then he has tried very hard to be as non polarizing and non confrontational as possible so no questions about DV come up.Comment

this is his moment.
he wants to be seen in a good light.
for all his posing, floyd does want to be liked/loved. everyone does.Comment

Floyd has always been like this. As much as I know some people hate Floyd, I don't think he's the bad guy people make him out to be. He hasn't really talked a ton of trash about a fighter in a while and if you watch his post-fight interviews he's usually a lot more humble and reserved than how brash he is leading up to the fight. This makes me think he does actually do that to sell tickets. Could he really be an an idiot in his personal life, probably, but he isn't any different than many of the other boxers active and from the past in terms of his personal life. I also think calling himself TBE doesn't make him arrogant. He's just confident in his ability. He always gives props to the guys before him, but always says he's fighting in his era. Nothing wrong with a fighter believing he's the best. And when you look at his skillset and how long he's been at the top/relevant, it's kind of understandable how he can think that.
It's just cool to hate on Mayweather. Any article about him gets instant hate. Which is great for the boxing websites. They probably make a ton off any article from Floyd. Even when he's genuinely being nice, people will have something negative to say about him. It's kind of sad now, but I think in the years to come history will be kind to Floyd. He's done a lot for the sport of boxing whether you like him or not.Comment
