I mean...not everyone can be like Floyd & Manny. Which makes them who they are at this stage.

Still even though Salido won with a weight advantage like that after missing weight it was pretty competitive for a guy in his 2nd pro fight never going 12 before. Almost a win really, his stock had risen from how strong he finished the fight and hanging in there with a tough hombre like Salido.

I can see the argument. The 'day before' weigh-in has opened the door to some truly ridiculous shit on the weight-cutting front. And the worst thing about it is that it exerts pressure on everyone else to do the same. Otherwise they can face serious weight disadvantages fighting in what should be their natural weight class.

Ultimately you can't stop fighters endangering their health by pushing the weight-cut to the edge, but you can do something about them endangering the health of everyone that has to face them.

Increasingly i think same day weigh ins are the way to go.

There are dangers obviously, but at least you are responsible for your own health, rather than being put in danger having to face a guy coming in 15-20lbs heavier than he should be.

Also I think in this day and age fighters would be a lot more careful dehydrating themselves for a same day weigh in than they were in the past, so some of the potential risks might be mitigated.

If Kell Brook (who is huge at the weight) can make a check weight so should everyone or move up in weight. The IBF have it right the only 1 of the 4 that I have even 1 iota of respect for.

except they won't rehydrate and die or get brain damaged.

I dont see it. Everyone knows the dangers. People are only going to cut to the point it gives them an advantage, which with a same day weigh in is a few pounds max depending on the weightclass.

If you're dumb enough to cut 15lbs right before you go into a ring to fight a pro boxer then thats on you. The vast majority wont. The ones that do will serve as an example should others who might be thinking about it.

Yeah, I was thinking the other day, how older fighters. . . Pac, Floyd, JMM have all grown into WW, but up n coming WWs are shredding to make that weigh in.
