They should make it illegal for you to come in 10lbs over the weight limit

It would make it safer for the fighters

The more you dehydrate yourself to make weight, you decrease the amount of protective fluid around the brain , making it more likely you suffer severe brain trauma

It's no coincidence the very best fighters of recent years fight near their walking around weight and they all have great chins. Guys like Sergio, bhop, Floyd, PAC, ggg, rigo etc

If you're weight draining yourself, more likely you will not take a shot as well unless you have one of the greatest chins of all time like margarito and rios

Never really got this pathological obsession with fight night weight. Boxers who rely more on offense tend to come in heavier, defensive boxers usually come in lighter. The ones who rehydrate an insane amount, like Dawson vs Ward, usually under-perform and lose.

Or Just Do Same Day Weigh Ins!

If you have to kill yourself to make weight then that is your damn problem!

Much more so Floyd to be honest. Pac has been been playing the weight game for years. Sometimes coming in 16lbs heavier than where he weighed in. Floyd has stayed within 0-5lbs of his weigh in weight his whole career. Pac gets the credit for beating so many bigger guys, but in reality, Floyd has been in the ring as the smaller guy more than Pac has.

If they did this I believe most fighters would be smart enough to move up a weight class.

More time training for a fight and less time trying to cut weight.

What they should do is return to same day weigh ins. I don't remember any problems in those days. If a fighter put on ten pounds in 6 hours they would look like they swallowed a watermelon whole. Those were the good old days. Lightweights were really lightweights and middleweights were really middleweights. Middleweights didn't weigh in at 160 and come in the ring weighing 180 like Chavez used to do. A middleweight would come in the ring at maybe 3 to 6 pounds more than they weighed in at tops and that's the way it should be.

This is the truth!! I really wonder what weight class everyone would fall into if they were at their real weight class.

I've always hated the cut water approach for wrestling and boxing. Especially wrestling because High Schools do it to kids.

Pretty sure Floyd rehydrated 7.5 lbs against Jesus Chavez. He looked a little off that night and never drained himself that much again. These days though he refuses to be weighed on fight night, so we have no idea what he weighs in the ring.
