I don't mind Canelo fighting a catchweight because he is not holding any world title. That's a big difference. Garcia, Peterson ect are examples of fighters and their managers trying to game the system and ensure their fighters remain world champs with fraudulent defenses or in this case remain world champ even if their fighter loses.

Ya those fights were very telling. Thurman would destroy him, he's very basic. Not sure what there is for Garcia at welterweight. Herrera kinda exposed him a bit. If you won't stand in front of him or run in hands down, he runs out of ideas. He was short on ideas against Morales and Judah - both well over the hill. He had no idea how to get to Herrera. The bigger, longer, stronger boxers at 147 won't be easy for Garcia at all. I'd tab Thurman, Broner, Alexander, Bradley, of course Mayweather or Pacquiao, and several others to beat Garcia at this point.Comment

Not to mention amir khan clearly won the fight and was the victim of a hometown decision and a ref who deducted points in the last rounds. Even with the points deducted it should have been a victory for khan. They should force them to vacate all those titles already so Terance Crawford can come scoop them up after he wins the who belt and becomes undisputed 140 champ. Then Manny can go ahead and take all those belts and be u disputed champion of 2 divisions after he beats both mayweather and Crawford. Has that ever happened before? Pacquiao would have to be considered the best ever at that pointThis is really a joke. You got one guy (Peterson) who won a belt by cheating (PEDs) gets caught is fined and busted but still gets to keep the belt he never won fairly in the first place. Then fights a catchweight gets blown out but since it was a catchweight he still keeps the belt he never really earned in the first place. Now he's fighting another catchweight and if he loses he will still be world champ? Meanwhile the other guy (Garcia) got his butt whooped against Herrera and told the world he wouldn't give him a rematch because he was moving to 147. Over a year later and he hasn't defended his belts or made weight. But isn't fighting at 147 and is basically having Haymon pay guys off to delay having to defend his belts. Must be nice to have Haymon in your back pocket to pay guys off because you can lose fights, not defend your title, get busted with PED's and still remain "world champ".Comment

Basically. The sanctioning bodies are at the whim of the big promotional companies. Either by influence or cash. Probably by both.Comment

Yup and worse people forget how Peterson got the IBF belt in the first place. He beat Khan who was both IBF and WBA champ in a controversial fight. They were going to have a rematch and then Peterson got busted for a failed drug test and admitted to taking PEDs for the first fight. He got suspended and the WBA stripped his title but for some reason IBF let him keep the belt for a fight he admitted to taking banned substances for. The fact this dude can get KO'd by Garcia and still be a world champ is a joke.Comment

Not being able to make the weight happens. That is why we often see catch weight.
However it behooves Garcia here to move up in weight. Ultimately you hurt yourself more trying to cut weight and gain that small size advantage over your opponent, than to just move up and fight slightly bigger guys.
And this shouldn't d just apply to Garcia either. Canelo who is one of my favorite fighters to watch, also needs to cut the 155 BS. It's clear he can't make the weight anymore.Comment
