A boxer can always refute the charge of deliberately intending to injure an opponent by pointing out that the aim of landing punches in a boxing match is to score points, not cause injuries.
A fast bowler who uses bouncers - and they all do it - can't say the same thing. You don't get any points for hitting an opponent with the ball in a cricket match, but bouncers are still accepted as just part of the game.
