" Manny will KO Mayweather early "
" Mayweather will run the whole fight "
etc etc
Maybe its just me, but it seems that reality is dawning on Freddie.

They both like to counter, but put one of each of their fights on split-screen right now and you will see next to no similarity in their styles. Their movement, their rhythm, theiir defence, the shots they throw, all very different.
Marquez also sticks and throws combinations in the pocket, almost always throwing bodyshots into the mix which is how he tended to set stuff up against Pacquiao. Floyd rarely does that, even against opponents who's power he doesn't really respect.
That's not to say Manny's discomfort in leading isn't relevant, just that the Marquez fights aren't all that good a guide for how this fight is likely to pan out.
Its also like when a fighter is knocked out by a relatively light puncher, then that fighter who was knocked out goes against a harder hitting guy and people start referring to the fact that he was knocked out by a lighter puncher so he will definitely be knocked out by the harder puncher and sure enough, that theory fails like when Tommy Morrison was stopped by Mercer and Michael Bentt who were not considered as having Foreman's power, so everyone said there is no way he takes Goerge Foremans punches and sure enough, he took some solid ones and did not get stopped, and won the fight. A fighter gets beaten by a club fighter or low level contender and is written off as not being able to hang with the elite and countless times, the opposite happens, they not only hang, they defeat the elite fighter.
Rolando Navarette was beating by guys named Kim and Ferrari and Cabanelo so there is no way he can compete with Cornelius Boza Edwards and what does he do, he blasts out Edwards. And there are countless cases of fighters who have problems with counter-punchers but go on to beat even better counter-punchers. Happily the sweet science is no predictable science outside of ultimate mismatches. Beyond that, it is the theater of the unexpected.
But, a lot of the new boxing fans don't know this and end up disillusioned when their theory fails over things like these where they use an analogy, a simile, and it doesn't work. And probably the best proof is when the comparison works in one fight and then in the rematch, it fails because the other guy wins using the same or different strategy.Last edited by richardt; 03-16-2015, 09:46 PM.

That was an A-fighter, in his prime, fighting a guy 2 levels below him.
This will be two A-fighters, who have both declined a little, no excuses.

Roach is all over the place. Honestly, I don't think Floyd is gonna do a lotta moving. Most of the talk on this site has been about this diminished version of Floyd facing this speedy southpaw that throws punches in bunches for three minutes a round. And an awkward guy that throws a lotta punches from weird angles. But the reality is, Manny doesn't fight for three minutes a round any more. And his style really isn't all that awkward any more. Floyd can beat Manny moving and countering. But he can make it a much easier fight by getting on his front foot, coming forward, and making Manny fight going backwards. Which he isn't very good at.

It will be close and controversial and both sides and fanbases will argue their guy won and that will go on for months until a rematch and based on what takes place in the first fight, may determine who might have the edge in a rematch. And if it is a very close fight either way, I'd go with Floyd in the rematch because typically, purer boxers improve for rematches which is what I said before the second Maidana fight and this goes back to Sal Sanchez and Danny Little Red Lopez as my earliest memory where a purer boxer improves for a rematch.Last edited by richardt; 03-16-2015, 10:20 PM.

What concerns me about Manny nowadays is when he's busy he flails rather than looks tight and in control. If he can circle Floyd and use that 'in out' attack method plus keep it tight/guard up, he'll have some success for sure.
some people are predicting a late stoppage for Floyd with good reason. The key to Pacs gameplan is energy conservation.
