his movement gave kovalev problems and he caught him with several good shots. kovalev dominated early but pascal took over the fight in the 5th and 6th before being hurt in the 7th the effects of which was still present in the 8th. had he been able to survive (which i think is a 50/50 chance) it could easily have swung back in his favor, the longer it would have went the more it favored pascal.

he was concussed by the way, you dont get hurt like that without a concussion, but this is the fight game and it comes with the territory. its very possible kovalev would have laid him out, but pascal scored a legit KD right before the stoppage (no im not saying kovalev was hurt, but he was hit and he went down). with the added time pascal may have been able to recover like he had done several times before during the fight and countless times over the course of his career. to assume a pascal who still had his wits about him would get knocked clean out is ridiculous, dude is a warrior and he always stays calm when he is hurt. kovalev had him in bad shape before and couldnt get rid of him.
kovalev had already adjusted to him and was giving him the b-hop treatment before he hurt him in the seventh. sure, pascal nicked a couple of rounds, but that in itself doesn't mean he'll fare any better in a rematch - all it indicates is that he might be able to win a couple of rounds again. if anything, a rematch would actually benefit kovalev as he's the smarter, more versatile boxer of the two. pascal had clearly had the fight beaten out of him after he got up from the knock-down; i respect his right to go out on his shield and for that reason i feel the stoppage was premature too, but he was just going to lie on the ropes and have seven shades of **** beaten out of him. kovalev is a brutal finisher, not easy to tie up or escape from.

i think pascal has a decent chance in a rematch as well, he was giving kovalev all sorts of problems and the longer the fight went the more it would have favored pascal. if it wasnt for that BS stoppage who knows what would have happened.

kovalevs defense is below average, he has no inside game at all and he fights completely in straight lines. the things he does well he does extraordinarily well but there are several more well rounded fighters who would take him out.
I'm not sure if you saw Pascal nearly out on his feet when he stumbled all the way from one side of the ring to the other as the ref was talking to Kovalev near the end. Kovalev pointed to him and laughed because Pascal didn't even know where he was and could barely stand on his own accord.

Kovalev crushed him with two flush unanswered punches and had the ref not stepped in right there, I have absolutely no doubt at all that he would have been out cold in a matter of seconds. Getting hit flush, full bore by a guy with power like that while not being able to protect yourself is a surefire way to get the rest of your life ruined.

Beterbiev is the most qualified to beat Kovalev.

Kovalev ****s inside of Ward's mouth imo.

Stevenson has a chance. Would be a great fight, better than the Pascal fight.

Only Ward I think could beat him. But I'm not sure he could. It would be Ward's toughest fight and he would have to endure some real damage to beat Kovalev in my opinion.

                    Good match-up though.

I think Kovalev is better than Beterbiev from what I've seen.

But agree that Beterbiev is already a top 5 light heavyweight. But it would be a great fight.
