I don't think Beterbiev is ready for Kovalev yet. It is a long way from the amateurs to the pros.

I know there were rumours about a broken jaw but I never saw anything that confirmed it. Like I said...it was his 3rd loss in a row. Like you said...he was already showing signs of being a shot fighter in the Stevenson fight and quit after 7. Beterbiev is going to need at least 10 more wins to prove himself worthy of a title shot. It should take him 2 1/2 years to prove himself a serious money attraction...but he might get fast tracked given the lack of real competition in the division now. He still needs to get past the top tier 1st.

I'm not saying he does not have potential...I'm saying it's way to early in his career to conclude. He's still unproven as a pro and not yet ready. I'd like to see him fight Pascal soon at least...not that I'm a fan of Pascal or think he will give him trouble.

Unfortunately Beterbiev will not be able to find 10 more "average" opponents with enough guts to share the ring with him...
