And as far as your second point, I 100% agree. I hate that people only think of the shot version of RJJ if they are new to the sport. I have the same disdain for people that when I bring up DLH, they only think of the over the hill version that lost to Manny, not the monster he was in his prime, pre-Floyd fight. It's the same thing, and it's pathetic.

The problem with some revisionists who weren't around at the time is that they don't realize that most of the "name" fighters that Roy could have fought but didn't, took a loss to someone Roy subsequently beat.

It's a joke to suggest Roy Jones Jr, the man who fought ABSOLUTELY everyone he could, would ever duck anyone.

I know RJJ resume doesn't need to grow. I never said Kovalevs resume compares, or would even compare when it's all said and done. I just mean to say that we know who RJJ was in his prime and througout his career, Kovalev has yet to peak, and is this good already and without bigger fights.

I think some of you are seriously, seriously underestimating Kovalev here.

He was dropped by Boone once officially but supposedly 3 knockdowns should have been credited. Unfortunately no footage of this so the uncertainty = suspect imo. Plus, never been in with a world class big puncher.

I think there are legitimate criticisms of Jones' competition. Michalczewski was certainly the one big miss but there were some fighters, mainly from Europe, fighting at 168 or 190 that Jones probably should have tried harder to lure into the ring with him. Even his unification fights are somewhat tarnished by the terrible sanctioning body politics that gave rise to those belts being stripped from Michalczewski.

Agreed. ODLH was extremely fast, had great fundamentals and sick power from LW to WW. Personally I thought his fight with Floyd was a draw and that wasn't anywhere near the best Oscar. Had Floyd fought him at his peak I think he would have lost. People have forgotten how damn special he was. He beat Tito and Shane too as far as I'm concerned.

The one time Roy got dropped in his prime he got up more like it was a slip than a knock down. He wasn't even close to being hurt. The drop back down from HW ruined his punch resistance and stamina as it has known to do many fighters. Look into how pathetic of a chin Chris Byrd had when he dropped down to lhw from hw. He was taking big shots from guys a lot bigger than him for a decade and then all of the sudden he cant take a stiff jab from a journeyman.

DM wasnt willing to fight Roy in the US and as you know the P4P no1 fighter calls the shots. It's always been that simple. That's also why the Hopkins rematch didn't happen when it mattered and why Calzaghe waited to fight Roy when he was past it. At his peak Jones was just too much of a gamble for those guys.
