How about a tuneup against the #18 Super Middleweight to prepare for a fight with a top 10 168 fighter later this year?

He's taking a stay busy fight against a southpaw to prepare for Andy Lee should he beat Quillin. Are you excited about GGG vs. Lee?

Do you really want to see all of this talent and potential defeat a resume of Martin Murray, Willie Monroe, Andy Lee, Daniel Geale, Adama, Rubio and Stevens during the prime years of his career?
when you get to this point don't you think your nitpicking has gone overboard a tad? monroe vs ggg isn't a very good fight. you can say that but what you are saying is "why doens't ggg step up" and he clearly has tried but you won't accept it and keep blaming him instead of the people ducking him. Then when he tries to keep fighting and boost his popularity you tell him to go fight the #18 super middleweight? how about he just shouldn't fight? how many fighters get more popular not fighting?

    • It is a step back from Murray but he's available and the rest of 160 hasn't grown a pair yet, GGG gotta eat.

      • Boring and one sided

        • Fairly dangerous fight actually (through GGG should get the stoppage eventually)....Monroe is a slick southpaw who throws lots of straight head punches like Lara (he fights like Lara)....He can/will win some rounds against Gennady, but should get stopped in rounds 7-10

How many southpaws has GGG fought?? I'm not sure his style will be as effective against a Lefty..

The last Southpaw GGG fought (off the top of my head) was Ouma and he looked off in that fight...

I'm not asking why doesn't he step up. He's already stepped up. Martin Murray should have been the lineal middleweight champion. GGG manslaughtered him. There are no more challenges at 160. He's cleaned it out. There is not one fighter at 160 that I will pick to last 12 rounds with GGG. I can predict every single fight with 100% certainty.

I think he probably should move up at this point. But as long there's another man walking around calling himself the middleweight champion I can understand the argument that there's unfinished business.

                  • GGG is less than 1 month from being 33 years old....He's no young fighter that's for sure....So he has about 2-4 more solid years left and that's it....He should fight 1 or 2 more times at 160 and move up and take on Froch or Ward.

I personally did not think GGG was unbeatable at all, but he has looked more impressive in his last 2-3 fights....I thought he looked very unimpressive against Curtis Stevens, but lately he's looked great...

                    • Everyone else in boxing is asked to make something happen, by about everyone.

Just good enough is never acceptable for any top end guy on here, hell even if you do very well people find problems or create problems.

I still don't get why this guy gets a pass, and honestly I don't care who he fights in May because it is so soon and who is out there but the list was feux gauzi to begin with and it was a name from the list.

Maybe Monroe can surprise he was the one on the list with some up side, but if that happens then I get to listen to the same people making excuses for Golovkin claim why Monroe is awesome rather than the issues he gave Golovkin being flaws with Golovkin.
