  • USADA vs. VADA : Anti-Doping Duel

When you mention drug testing in sports there are two agencies that most people are familiar with - USADA and VADA. Let's study the track record of each respective agency to determine which of the two has the higher success rate and better credentials.

    USADA

    • Lied about testing Broner and DeMarco for their upcoming fights. They released a statement claiming that both Broner and Demarco have successfully past all of the test, DeMarco revealed afterwards that he was never tested. (Source)
    • Erik Morales tested positive TWICE before his fight with Danny Garcia, USADA kept the results hidden for months allowing Morales to fight, both USADA, GBP, NYSAC, and Showtime were aware of the situation, not a single **** was given. (Source)
    • Tested Peter Quillin for his fight with Winky Wright, destroyed all drug testing samples before results could be taken. (Source)

    VADA
    • Richard Schaefer threatened to file a lawsuit against them when they made Lamont Peterson's failed test results public without letting him know about it first. (Source)
    • Robert Garcia was pissed off at how they handled Rios's test sample, hinting that there may have been some ****ery involved, all that was dismissed when Rios admitted to taking a supplement known as Jack3d, which apparently contains a banned substance in the ingredients. (Source)
    • They found traces of PEDs in Andre Berto's system and wasted no time in making the results public, causing the event to be canceled, no fighter was allowed to fight with the benefits of using PEDs. (Source)

Lamont Peterson, Brandon Rios, and Andre Berto have all failed VADA testing. USADA has caught Erik Morales and even if more athletes have tested positive chances are we wouldn't know about it due to their non-disclosure contracts. They have contracts that allow test results to be forwarded directly to the client instead of the state athletic commission; this is a recipe for deception.

Considering all of the above, it would be logical to assume that VADA is ethically superior to USADA, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion...

I think they were rumours of Mayweather testing positive. Usada doesn't seem trust worthy.

Why are you afraid of the VADA test Floyd, are you hiding something?

Take the VADA test Floyd or you will forever be branded as a cheat.

Pac has already been VADA tested before now he is going to be USADA tested.

You have been USADA tested before so now take the VADA test Floyd roid.

What? Vada busted Berto, then a client of Conte. Fight canceled, Schaefer unhappy

Just to make things clear, I didn't nitpick anything to fit some cookie cutter opinion, anybody can reach these conclusions by simply googling "USADA boxing" or VADA boxing".

I want no testing and the most juiced up chemically enhanced performers as possible, would make for better fights.

Your post isn't accurate and omits various things, which makes your comment not believable. For instance, USADA didn't release a statement saying Broner and Demarco passed. They never do that, VADA is the one that releases statements saying 'this athlete passed our program successfully.' Instead USADA released a statement saying they were not tested because there was not enough time (less than 3 weeks).

Second, you leave out the issues with Lamont Peterson testing positive and the timeline for when everyone discovered this. Peterson knew for many weeks that he tested positive, but no one else knew because VADA gave him the power to withhold that information til his B-sample returned. So Golden Boy and NSAC didn't know officially til the last minute.

These are key omissions. VADA no longer gives an athlete that sort of power anymore since then.

yeah lots of controversy and cover ups with USADA. VADA is the one that actually catches the cheaters. USADA is the one they use when they want to say they are taking the test.

The next thing you don't realise is that there is little difference between USADA and VADA. Each organisation just takes samples and sends them to the same exact UCLA lab for results. The main difference is that VADA is generally cheaper than USADA. And there's a significant reason why they are cheaper which you likely don't know.
