  • Comments Thread For: Roach: That's Bull****, Floyd Don't Care About Fans

Floyd Mayweather’s legs are a little shot and his defensive abilities are waning, says Freddie Roach.

That is why Manny Pacquiao’s trainer believes Mayweather could be the perfect target for the Filipino when the two welterweights meet in Las Vegas on May 2.

Mayweather and Pacquiao on Wednesday turned out for their only joint press conference in the build-up to the bout.

Mind games.................Yesterday was a perfect example by both camps especially from Mayweather. The way he took center stage and said a loss is always in someones mind. True but albeit it makes them better in some ways. No one wants to lose. We all know that fighters like to get into their opponents head to have them doubt themselves and in turn under perform in their fight. This is true but not al this level. They are both mentally strong and even with the ko loss to Marquez, Pacquiao is unfazed even when the subject is brought up. I am not here to bash anyone because I trully respect both men and their gifts but if I were to put my chips down and say someone is more mentally affected by the other, I would have to put my chips down on Mayweather. Think about it. When talks about Mayweather vs Pacquiao started years back, everyone took shots at Mayweather. You're a coward, scared, chicken, ducking, afraid..........all from media, fans, artist, boxing icons. All this does take a toll on a person. Sure he tries to brush it off but how long can he? Compare Pacquiao has been treated by all these sources to May. Pacquiao is all smiles in interviews specifically in espn live interviews. He really is all smiles and when something negative about his career comes into question what does he do again? Smiles and brushes it off. Then again the the interviewers are always more kind to Pac than they are to Mayweather. To Mayweather is all about why you don't do this why don't you do this or that, frustrating Mayweather and making him explode. That right there my friends are years and years of mind games. Not from one man to the next but from many men to one. Mayweather took this fight to prove something. Did he do it to shut everyone up and flick the middle finger at all the negative press he received through out the years? Or more too solidify his legacy as an all time great? Or both. Who knows. One things is for certain. This is in Mayweathers head. I believe he wakes up and goes to bed thinking and pondering what and how to beat up Manny Pacquiao and immediately goes to train. Pacquiao does the same but I think he does it more in a relax state of mind. Who knows. Can't wait for this fight when all these questions are answered. Good luck to both men. God bless them.

Ok,let the flame war begin. I think that roach might be onto something. After watching some replays of a younger Floyd, even the one that faced Marquez, you'd see that every time he'd get backed into the ropes,he'd immediately use his legs, and move out of there. Look at the cotto, canelo, and maidana fights. I highly doubt that he "chose" to stay in the pocket, and exchange, just to please the fans. I really think that he knows that his legs won't hold up for 12 rounds of movement, so he relies on taking a break and counterpunching off the ropes,so he can rest his legs. Now I'm not saying that its going to be target practice, but if maidana could clip Floyd, while throwing one or 2 slow punches at a time, I really think that Manny will be able to land on him, when he starts throwing 5-8 punch combinations, from awkward angles.

If Pac lands strong, history shows Floyd will not run but come forward and fight. Roach does have a point about his legs not being where they were.

            Agree...pressure is all on mayweather.

However I think that Floyd is enough professional and mentally strong to be able to come in top shape both phisically and pshycologically the day of the fight... I don't think that all the hype of these years will be a factor when they are in the ring...only the "boxing" software in their brain will play at that moment and nothing else.

I agree but if I were Roach I would train like I'm fighting the Floyd who beat Diego Corrales. Floyd was perfect in that fight. Thats the Floyd Freddie has to get ready for. Who cares if Floyd lost a step or two. The man is coming to give his best performance. If Floyd did slow down, who cares! Train for the him like he is still in his prime.

Even if it was true about his legs being shot, he had the option to tie Maidana up everytime he got inside and chose not to do it.

I don't think Freddie is such dumb to understimate Floyd just because his latest fights..

Of course he will try to prepare Manny to fight the best Floyd and not the Maidana 1 Floyd I guess.

Don't trust too much what trainers and fighters say before a fight...its just hype.
