It's not like an NFL game that you know is going to a fourth quarter.

That's part of the reason it's hard to get sponsors for boxing.

And even if the PBC has undercard/swing bouts that it can air if a main event ends early, it's questionable whether that kind of bout can maintain an audience.
The Haymon shows have more than the two TV fights (first show had Broner-Molina, Thurman-Guerrero, and the Mares fight prepped for TV. if both early fights ended way early, you could still fill the rest of the time with talking and the showcase fights).

The April 11 show has Quillin-Lee and Garcia-Peterson, but they also have lesser known fights (Diaz-Bracero) and fighters (Heather Hardy) that the live audience should be interested in, which will help the presentation on TV.

Because that's what companies want to pay premium money for...ads during talking and showcase fights.

The Broner and Mares fights were duds.

That has nothing to do with the PBC.
Never said it had anything to do with PBC; just continuing to make the point that the 'PBC on NBC' dates have a pretty reasonable shot at bringing in half of what college football on ABC gets per 30-second spot, which would give them a price point where they could comfortably finance Stevenson-Kovalev, the point that was the genesis of this entire conversation.

Maybe they can do half, eventually...but you'd be better off trying figure out what the UFC on FOX ads cost and going off that number than to compare it to something like ABC college football, which the PBC isn't even close to.

The Broner and Maidana fights ended up being duds; to try and act as if hindsight is 20/20 is silly. The card was hyped behind the two fights and Abner Mares was in some of the commercials (though his fight wasn't really promoted beyond 'come see Abner Mares'), but the advertisers had to make their decision well before the first bell rang.

I'm not in ad sales, and I doubt that you are in ad sales; how the ads end up getting placed during a broadcast (which ads go where) isn't disclosed anywhere, from what I can find.

Ideally, IMO ads should be run in 5-10 minute slots in between fights, that way a fight can be shown in it's entirety, and advertisers wouldn't have to worry about a fight ending early and their ad not being shown.

The point is this is a thread about PBC ratings.
