If the ABC number holds up for general sports, you're basically looking at a 40%-50% increase in what's being charged for spots.

    $100k per 30-second spot, for a show that will be well hyped with marketable fights, isn't all that ridiculous an ask, especially if that lead in the 18-49 demo holds up.

        Well, ya, they didnt have any sponsors the first go round. Not really what Im meaning though. Like, what is their potential ad time/how many commercials?

        They had every possible time slot with two 12 rd uds the other night. So we could get basically exact ad time for future cards and go from ther to figure out what their different ad revenues would be.

        Naw what I mean?

          The ABC college football number jumped 39% from 2013, according to Variety's numbers (although Variety had it at $115,000 in 2013, the Ad Age the number was $110,000).

          Either way, it made a huge leap last year.

          The PBC won't be close to that for a long time, if ever.

            • Id say there maximum ad time is arund 24-30 minutes. On top of that, do what Corona did and bring the last 3 rds to you commercial free. Then you got sponsors who get there name on the ring, gate, merchandise. Lets leave it at that.

              Ill do a quick calculation jjust cause I enjoy stuff like this. Feel free to do your own.


              The money maker, commercials. So Ill just go in the middle. 27 minutes of ad time. On the low end starting off with PBS they're looking at 20-30k per30 seconds. So lets go 25k in the middle. Thats 50k a minute. High end 100k for 30 seconds.

              Low end: 50k x 27 = 1,350,000 High end: 200k x 27 = 5.400,000

              Then you got commercial free time from a major sponsor in the championship rds. Basically just mentioning there name, "commercial free championship rds, Brought to you by......."

              50k each fight on the low end. So 100k for two fights.High end 200k

              Gate. Depends on the fighters, Could be anywhere from 500k to 5m. Lets go lown end and say 1m.

              In ring sponsors. A major flyer in the middle. 4 smaller ones in the corners, and some tiny ones on the ropes. Low end/high end: Big flyer 100k/300k 4 medium ads 25k/50k rope ads 5k x 4/ 10k x 4

              Merchandise, who really knows. Low end 25k high end 200k

              ***Both high and low end figures are completely speculative and under the best of circumstances***

              Low End:

              Commercial Revenue: 1,350,000
              Commercial Free Time: 100,000
              Gate: 1,000,000
              Flyers in ring: 220,000
              Merchandise: 25,000

              Total: $2,695,000

              High End:


              Commercial Revenue: 5,400,000
              Commercial Free Time: 200,000
              Gate: 3,000,000
              Flyers in ring: 390,000
              Merchandise: 200,000

              Total:$9,190,000

              As you can see even on the low end, if things start moving along, it's not impossible to at least make your money back depending on who's fighting and what you are paying.

              As you can see on the high end, if things really take off, and you got a big fight, you could be making some serious cash.

              Theres a lot of potential money on network tv. Ive always been trying to tell people this. You get the sponsors and advertisers exited and it trumps anything HBO or Showtime can do.

                Championship rounds aren't guaranteed.

                It's not like an NFL game that you know is going to a fourth quarter.

                That's part of the reason it's hard to get sponsors for boxing.

                And even if the PBC has undercard/swing bouts that it can air if a main event ends early, it's questionable whether that kind of bout can maintain an audience.

                  Honestly didn't run a count, but wouldn't be shocked if they ended up running 30-40 spots (Corona 'sponsoring' the last three commercial-free rounds for the Broner-Molina fight, and a good chunk of the commercials, skewed things a bit).

                  If the format from the first show sticks, you could easily see 50 commercials imo.

                    Premier Boxing Champions is hitting the ground at a moment where ABC did $160k per spot in 2014 (that number has likely gone up a bit for 2015).

                    PBC doesn't need to match last year's ABC number; they need to get half of that, which isn't all that ridiculous a proposition, imo

                      The increase in ABC college football was due, in part, to it being the inaugural season of the college football playoff.

                      That has nothing to do with the PBC.
