Rematch? Hell nah. He landed what? 12 punches?

I couldn't even watch the replay for free the following week. It was an embarrassment.

A full-strength Alvarez certainly would have had more of a puncher's chance.

I understand what you are saying about catchweights from a boxing purist's point of view: If one fighter needs the advantage of a catchweight, he shouldn't be facing his naturally larger opponent in the first place. Or the fight shouldn't bear much significance, because it is nothing more than a glorified exhibition. But sometimes, it's just fun to watch!
      Exactly, good stuff !

And the best point was your last comment.....
"the fight shouldn't bear much significance, because it is nothing more than a glorified exhibition"

..... which is fine, and fun to watch as you pointed out.....

.... but that fight should be classified as an exhibition match, and nothing more.

Catchweights should never involve title fights, not imho anyways.

He was the bigger man on fight-night.

And THAT, tells the whole story.

You say that Pac deserves credit for fighting the bigger man.....

..... except after the weight manipulations, mostly Oscars fault, he was not the bigger man, and he was far removed from his best fighting shape..... and I cannot fathom how you could fail to understand those two important factors.

That version of Oscar would have lost to EVERY top welter, and EVERY top JWW..... so why the *** is it an amazing achievement for Manny LOL

The shrink-wrapped, weight-drained, Zombie-Hoya, was not meaningful opposition..... even for your hero pac

BTW, this is my only account on boxingscene, but if I had another one I would be happy to school you on that as well.

Son, you are giving Pac credit after the fact, and you are completely ignoring the benefit of hindsight in order to do so.

After the fact, is the ONLY appropriate time to effectively evaluate an achievement..... you know, when ALL things have been considered.

After the fact, using the benefit of hindsight.... is far more accurate.

Freddy Roach did not think that was as big an achievement as you do......
            "no legs"..... "hesitant"..... "shot".....

I watched the first few rounds and knew what the rest of the fight would look like given Canelo's inability to adjust to Floyd.

Freddie says a lot of things, often wrong. If he was wrong this time, Pacs head was off.

Wonder how Freddie saw all this from a distance when geniuses in Dlhs camp, like Schaefer, Nacho, Dundee missed something so obvious.

                Youre boring me, tedious alt

The character of a fighter is not pointless, otherwise you would never comment about things that fighters say and you damn sure have debated about things fighters have said as well as other fans on this site. And yes, some fans followed Floyd right off the cliff when they backed him for his critical remarks of Pac and then he turns around and does the same thing, and some fans still came out with lame excuses. I will comment on the hypocrisy. If you don't like it, leave it.

You say that you have no problem with catchweights, just the complaining afterwards..... which is a bit silly.

How could there be no complaining afterwards, when you have unnecessarily provided a justifiable excuse to one/both participants. NOTE: the keywords are "unnecessary" and "justifiable".

I have a much better position.....

Completely abolish catchweights because they are simply unnecessary.

                    * we no longer have the original 8 divisions, there are 17 divisions now, surely a fighter can find one that he is comfortable with

                    * a title fight at catchweight is fkn criminal, and should never happen, EVER

                    * catchweights were originally used to justify exhibition matches, nothing more, but the standards have dropped, because of public acceptance..... just like you are displaying

                    Example:
                    Pacquiao/Cotto = unnecessary
Pacquiao/Hoya = absurd (exhibition match, previously 4 divisions apart)
Pacquiao/Margarito = absurd (neither were JMW, fighting for vacant title, at catchweight)
                    Mayweather/Canelo = unnecessary

Hard luck Mayweather and Pacquiao for demeaning your own achievments.

                    Fakk catchweights.

The only two reasons why any fighter would need a catchweight are.....

                    * you are not good enough to compete against your opponent without reducing his effectiveness

                    or.....

                    * you are attempting to gain an unfair advantage

                    Either one is unacceptable.

                    Fakk catchweights.
I agree with all this. But what I was trying to say and didn't use the right words (too late at night) was this: Pac uses a Catch weight for Cotto, Floyd complains about the Catch weight and does the same himself. Cotto from the Pac fight complained about being weak from losing weight but then he insists that Martinez come in lower.

Canelo agrees to fight Floyd at a lower weight a couple years earlier and then says he has no problem going down in weight before the fight and then after the fight he complains but yet he puts Catch weights on some of his fights because he cant make 154 easily.

So the common theme is these guys agreeing and then complaining or complaining and doing the same thing themselves to other fighters. If all of them didn't say a thing, I would not have a big issue with Catch weights, it is the hypocrisy or agreeing and complaining that gets on my nerves. But yes, the best thing is to abolish Catch weights, like the points you made above. If a fighter demands a Catch weight, it a way of saying that that fighter has to have an unfair advantage and that is not a good look for the fighter. They should just stay in their divisions or not ask for a Catch weight.

They missed it, BEFORE the fact.

I did not miss it, because I made my decision AFTER the fact..... I considered all things, and I used the benefit of hindsight.

                      Simple really.

I can understand why you're bored.
