  • fan of a particular fighter, or "nuthugger"?

so i'm not pointing out any group in particular, i'm talking to all groups - cotto fans, hatton fans, pac fans, em/mab/mexican fans and mayweather/black fans.

okay so the synopsis of this thread is quite easy - i just want to know where you stand and what you label yourself, "fan" or "nuthugger" as i've seen people of the both categories proudly label themselves, i'll reserve judgement - its what this thread is for. basically just to know who thinks what, for example, i'm a die hard cotto fan, but can never bring myself to say that "hatton sucks" or that cotto would clean out the 140's. i've seen some pac fans say that "mab, jmm and em are great champs" and on the opposite side of that spectrum we have the cotto fans that view hatton as an over-hyped one trick pony that beat a fading legend and pac fans that are incapable of giving credit where credit is due, speaking specifically of past/present mexican greats.

now - for the most part - i see people on here, like myself , that can be totally unbiased and i wont name you, nor the opposite alike, in what i've noticed. i want you to reply and do it yourselves.

i excluded the HW's because i honestly just don't care for them.

state your case - we're all ears

Not sure what I am but I'll tell like it is and say that I allways root for my peps, not sure if I nuthug 1 fighter because their's so many good mexican fighters that I like for example Margarito,Castillo, Morales, Barrera, arce, other castillo,De la hoya, vargas, corrales and so many more, But I love boxing and all entertaining fighters not just mexicans like Cotto,Hatton,Taylor,Paquiao, peters Etc. So people might say I'm bias but I dont think so, I root for all entertaining fighters that come to fight and i allways buy all PPV's even if it dont include a mexican. I also think if everybody fought like the fighters i named the boxing game would be alot better of because the people want to see wars not some over defensive fight, but that just my opinion.

i feel you on what you're saying, like i always root for my peoples too, and thats pr/mexican fighters (raised in cali by a mexican fighter) but only one time did i ever root for the mexican in a fight agains't a puerto rican, when julio diaz fought manfredy and diaz was robbed, i remember being as pissed as i would have been had diaz won and manfredy been robbed. since you're an obvious mexican but can root/appreciate (when they're not fighting mexicans) the likes of pac, cotto and hatton - then you're a Fan, not a nuthugger.

      thats my take.

imho i am both, if you ask me who is my favorite fighter without any hesitation it would be PAC, although I am reserved on my proclamation of Manny's greatness deep inside me i think he is the sh_t ... but i would admit that most if not all of us fans have our own biases one way or the other ...

now a days with my limited resource, being in the middle of the Sahara Desert, my attention focuses MORE on Pinoy figthers who could be the next Big Thing coming out from my country ...

I would also like to thank boxingscene members both fans and nuthuggers who share fights or clips to share to everybody ...

To me a nuthugger finds anyway possable to downplay his favorite boxers losses. For example, "he was weight drained" "he was over the hill." While some of those excuses may be true sometimes, its not always the case. Also I dont want to offend anyone, but saying Tyson could still come back and win the title is def. nuthugging and Ive seen it on here before.

Im a fan no doubt. Ill admit that Tito got handled against Winky and B-Hop, and that Lacy got owned by Calzaghe.

Floyd is my favorite fighter right now, and i honestly think hes the best out there. this is from seeing nearly all his fights and many of his training videos and press releases. that being said, i dont think he is invincible and dont think hes the greatest of all time or anything like that.
same with Ali...i believe he was the greatest hw of all time, but im aware he lost to norton and maybe got a decision of 2 he didnt deserve

oftentimes, fans seem like nuthuggers because they have to deal with haters

being a floyd fanatic like you are, i think you're pretty much un-touchable when it comes to stating your case as to whos the best out there, for my floyd no doubt.

what i bolded is the epitome of it all - theres a fine line - but its crossed daily. we've all seen the outrageous comments that come out of frustration, rather than reason.

i've noticed your posts, and when not posting in retaliation to the mexicans out there - you're a level headed pac poster

i suppose the thing is, when faced w/ rebuttals for your "proclomations" like many pac fans do - you think they might offend the fans that have been around a long time to see the likes of greats like flash elorde, sanchez, gomez and the like?

i saw these same types of wars btwn pr/mexicans when the pr fans w/ tito as their heir to greatness went on that tear and would say outlandish things like "bring on rjj" and tito would have beaten duran, hearns and srl.

i see the same trend w/ the pinoys on here, not saying its that bad - but theres a pattern.

those were two very verrrrrry long nights for me, those tito losses. had lacy AND cotto lost on the same night - my wife would have probably put me on suicide watch.

tyson fans are a faith-filled bunch.

Im Armenian, and although I enjoy watching all sorts of fights and fighters, it is the success of Armenian boxers that interest me most.

Being such a small minority here in the US, we as a people feel that we must always support each other and back one another up to move up in this world.
I try not to be biased and i tell it like it is, cuz so far my favorite 3 fighters, of whom 2 i know personally are all undefeated and either at the top of their game or getting there.

                    1) Vic Darchinyan (good friend) - IBF & IBO World Flyweight Champion
                    2) Arthur Abraham - IBF Middleweight World Champion
                    3) Vanes Martirosyan (my cousin) - (7-0 4KOs) trained by Freddie Roach and promoted by Top Rank and Bob Arum. Also represented the USA in the 2004 Athens Olympics
