It got beat out by re-runs of some of the most watched shows on t.v. by whom? people over 49, PBC on NBC led in 18-49 viewership which instantly tells you that no matter the rating boxing is more viable then those other shows which beat out. Virtual unknown in the first ever episode you gotta be crazy to think that boxing is dead. REALLY?
Where in my post did I say it's dead? I watch cards from Japan I'm well aware of how big the sport is. I'm hoping it succeeds, there tons of fights on thanks to it, I just don't see how it's sustainable with massive budgets and with how short people's attention spans are. Time will tell, don't get so defensive.

That's decent number but low for network... For cable that would be great.. It's on par with pro wrestling and the ufc numbers for the recent mccgregor fight on foxsports1.. But boxing needs to raise the ratings to at least in the 4s and hopefully into the 5s to land the lucrative network TV deal.. They still have a lot more shows so hopefully they can improve the numbers for the network, especially since they ran a lot of ads hyping it up...

I didnt get defensive I just gave you some facts about why your view of boxing being a "niche" sport is misplaced. Your view that boxing is a "niche" sport is among the narrative of those who would have you believe that boxing is dead, which is why I put that in. The problem with boxing is that it transitioned from a local T.V. event to a network event which alienated casual viewers and an entire sect of people who dont have the want or moneys to subscribe to cable networks like showtime and HBO, but those people never left, as evidenced by youtube video boxing is watched by Millions upon Millions, and demographic tests also shows the sport still leads in combat sports and is the highest paid combat sport in the world.

LOL no comment or thread about the DUD of a fight on HBO2 last night put on by Top Rank right? The most viewed boxing related television event in years but these non-boxing fans are network and promotion groupies. Whats wrong with boxing is that portion of idiot fans who would rather pledge the're collective allegiance to a network rather then to the pugilists who put their own lives on the line the moment they part the ropes. Last night was a massive achievement for boxing as a sport irregardless of who put it together, and if you cant see that then you my friend are a network groupie.
Boxing have the worse fans In all of sports, I even seen MMA Fans Mock boxing fans for how they bash their own sport and act like they want a sport they're suppose to be fans of to FAIL.

Again Boxing Don't Have Fans...ONLY BOXERS HAVE FANS! I just laugh at the idiots on this forum and my Ignore list is filled with most of them. They just here to complain and criticize.

Top Rank, GBP, K2, Haymon, Hearn, Roc Nation I don't give a *** about the Promoters it is strictly about the fighters for me. I watching any Promotion as long as it is Boxing and it is match ups I like.

They weren't the worst matchups on paper but when the odds came in they were what, 10-1 for the favorites? The goal was to preserve the top Haymon fighters at all costs and they did. Teddy Atlas hit the nail on the head with his predictions on how the fights would go so there was not a ton of mystery to the outcome.

They could have been better matchups, or worse like when FS1/ESPN/Telefuture/Telemundo/Aztecca/Etc put 18-0 fighters in with 12-7-3 fighters where you know the outcome of an entire card or most of the card with zero doubt. If it ever gets to that point, cards of every network and promoter and manager need to be boycotted. Top fighters need to face top fighters and prospects face prospects.

I cant count how much of my time I have wasted on some 9-7 type record fighter being sent to the death chambers by putting him in against an 18-0, 16 KO's type fighter. NBC last night was comparable to what HBO/Showtime would show, meaning not scintillating matchups but not top guys against hapless, helpless TBA's who have lost 7 out of their last 9 fights, 5 by KO loss.

I don't expect that to happen with NBC but if I see a trend of top fighters or prospects going against obvious overmatched opponents, or when the overmatched opponent dominates and gets robbed by a Haymon fighter, there needs to be an outcry from fans. Manipulation of the sport and paid off or biased or blind judges need to be permanently removed from the sport.

I expect Wilder to do big numbers. He did very high ratings vs. Stiverne and that was on showtime.
