Cotto had a damn good shot at beating Floyd if they were to fight again. Which would be the biggest win of his career. And if he beat Floyd, it would mean fighting (faded) Pacquiao up at middleweight, even if he had to switch trainers again. Decent chance of winning that too. And lots of money.

Cotto also had a good chance at beating Canelo, but I don't think he's interested in the possibility of getting his ass stomped out by a Mexican at the point. And if he won? People are going to say he just beat a hypejob that Floyd exposed anyway.

Yeah, it was a lot of money. But any fight Cotto is in is going to be a lot of money.
He lost 12-0 last time, lol what is he going to do in a rematch? Dont forget, Mayweather does better in rematches.

Mayweather vs Cotto II would've been a disgrace to all boxing fans, i'am not paying $70 to see him rematch someone he went 12-0 with the first time.

cause cotto is a coward and greedy one at that. the guaranteed career high payday that canelo was offering cotto was up to that point but the greedy coward thought he could leverage his new 160 accolade into a better deal with mayweather but mayweather pissed on him and told em kick rocks.

I don't think Canelo was interested in fighting in New York at all.
They stated it was the plan from the very beginning. If Floyd / Pac was made they would move. How does that look dumb?

The longer the negotiaions with Mayweather and Pacquiao took, the less likely it looked to be made.

Be honest, MOst of us here are suprised it's finally got sign this year.

And I could see how GBP would've believed that the Cotto Option was gone.

So the next guy they got is Kikrland, which is not a bad fight, but nothing of what Cotto vs Canelo would've been considering the rivalry.
I've been trolling this topic to death lately, but this is probably a very real scenario in all actuality. It wasn't anything negative, Oscar just had no clue that May/Pac was going to happen, he even told the media he expected May/Cotto. He probably got scared and had to make something happen with Canelo and made the move too early and just ****ed it up for everyone.

We do need to understand that Richard had been doing all the heavy lifting at Golden Boy. One of Oscars first real attempts of negotiating a fight was Cotto/Canelo both are complete diva's, that couldn't have been easy. And while obviously not on purpose, it was a rookie move flinching a bit too early like that.

Green K sent man, even if you didn't mean all that you made something click that just made more sense than what I thought happened. Solid post.

They tried to steal the date from mayweather. Oscar never believed may/pac would happen. They wanted that date bad. They woulda looked weak for moving the fight. Cotto was taking a wait and see approach. They rushed to try to secure the date. Now they lost the fight and the date.

I don't think Canelo ever agreed to fighting cotto in new York.

I honestly believe Mayweather still did not want to fight Pacquiao.

I mean a multi-million dollar fight "Money" Mayweather negotiating one, if not the highest grossing PPV Event in history , and he's making Cotto offers.

Another thing, remember when Mayweather started sharing pictures of him and Pacquiao at the game a few days before they annouced the fight, to make it look like he always wanted the fight.
Yet a few weeks ago he said "Who the hell is Pacquiao, he's not a boss he's an employee, and I only deal with bosses" along those lines. Yet he schedules a night where he meets Pacquiao to get the "fight done".
              Foyd was forced into it.
Even Sr didn't want it, as he thought there was something odd about Pacquiao destroying guys natural welters struggled with.

And thankfully Canelo was ready to make a fight with Cotto to challenge FLoyd for his May date, Or else it would have made it easier for FLoyd to fight anyone else but Pacquiao.

It took everything to pressure him into it. He had no where else to go.

But they would have fought on that date if Floyd fought anybody OTHER than Manny. So, again, how does that make them look weak?

Cotto was waiting to see if HE would get the call to fight Floyd.

What does fighting Cotto in New York have to do with anything?

He didn't want the fight. People will spin what ever they want, but the fact is Cotto didn't want the fight. Remember this is not the first time he's rejected the fight.

What is the point of signing for a fight when your not sure it's gonna happen on that date? All you have to do is wait and see.

It was rumored from the start that cotto wanted the fight in New York on puerto rican weekend. Canelo wanted Vegas or Texas.
