Why was Canelo in such a hurry to take the Mexican dates?

I think it does when the guy you lost to is the one you're fighting over the date for. I mean, I guarantee you Floyd vs anyone will do higher numbers than Canelo vs anyone (except Cotto). Simply because he can still market his 0, while Canelo can't anymore.Comment

That whole Mexican date thing is bulltish. I'm Mexican, are you telling me I only watch boxing on those two dates? If Mayweather fights Pacquiao on Juneteenth, Mexicans aren't going to buy the fight? ******.
I don't know anyone that references fights by the date they happened. Besides, there are no memorable fights that happened on those famous Mexican dates, besides Corrales and Castillo, but that fight wasn't promoted as a Mexican weekend date fight and only 5,000 people attended the Mandalay Bay.Comment

Why should the most popular Mexican fighter give up traditional Mexican dates to Mayweather? Mayweather doesn't own those dates. They are just days on the calendar. Canelo is moving for the big one but he may fight on the same day as Mayweather in September unless there is a Pacquiao-Mayweather rematch.Comment

Canelo's promoter, Dela Hoya, already made it clear in the Cotto negotiations that if the May/Pac gets made they will be willing to make adjustments on the date. What pissed Hoya was the silence in the Cotto side. They're not behaving like mature adults. They took this A-side crap way too seriously. What's wrong in saying they're in negotiations with Haymon or something? Just effing communicate.Comment

Indeed. He could not beat Floyd in the ring, so he tried to beat Floyd in the Cinco De Mayo sweepstakes and learned the hard way. He will now be fighting Kirkland, as the openeing act for a donkey show somewhere in Tiajuana.
