Merchant actually like Floyd at lower weights. Spoke glowingly of his talent.

What he didn't like was all the bums Floyd was fighting. He felt Floyd could showcase that special talent of his against the best in his era and began to disapprove of Floyd when he didn't.

I like him. He is not a blabbermouth like Lampley and unlike Lamley he really knows boxing and boxing history. What he says about a fight or the fighters is usually very accurate. He tells it like it is. That is not being negative, just truthful.
