I like the guy but boy is he a negative man, its like he is really critical judgmental, moody short and so so negative all the time. Im surprised they let him on TV.

He wasn't always that way but he became very cranky and bored later in his career whenever there wasn't hardcore action in the ring. If you see his commentary on some guys like Sweet Pea early on he was very complimentary, but later on with guys like Floyd (better offense than Pernell) he had no time for it.

It's better he's retired and off air because his shtick got old.

Better offense than floyd? Haha sweet pea's aggressiveness departed the two. Sweet had more of an arsenal

The overwhelming majority of the criticism directed at Merchant comes from guys who're mad he didn't like Floyd.

I would take him over Kellerman every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I like Larry Merchant he's old school, and tells it like it is. He had his moment's of negativity, but everyone that he went after, like Hopkins or Mayweather...... at the end of the day ended up liking him any way, for not making it easy for them.

He was incredibly biased at times, like all the HBO commentators, and there were definitely a few fighters he didn't like.

Haven't seen or heard from him much since HBO got rid of him to be honest. I know he works for Top Rank Broadcast team with Colonel Bob Sheridan but when I watch he barely speaks, it is mostly Colonel and Crystina Poncher calling the matches it seem lol
