calzaghe lacy was on showtime. lacy was never a huge star. that was frank warrens marketing. showtime was nowhere near the level of hbo at the time and lacy spent most of his time on undercards. a guy like berto was much more popular and hyped than lacy. lacy would be comparable to a guy like quillin.Comment

@ "Frank Warren's marketing"
The Yanks marketed Jeff Lacy to be some killer. And not just dumb fanboys, respected writers all tipped him to beat Calzaghe and become a star
Hilarious how Americans now try to blame us for hyping Lacy.Comment

what kind of hyped up fighter fights on jose luis castillo undercards? and on second rate showtime no less? he was a virtual unknown why can't you admit it? the writers picked him because calzaghe was seen as a senchenko type bum. not sure why you don't understand this. obviously calzaghe was better than advertised and lacy not as good as they thought but that doesn't mean he was some boxing star over here because he wasn't.Comment

Obviously Broner is still an open book. But if you go off their two losses, it was Lacy for sure. Even with the knockdowns Maidana-Broner was much more competitive than Calzaghe-Lacy. Broner is still young enough to improve, while you could tell that Lacy hit the class wall very hard and wouldn't recover.Comment

I didn't say he was a star. There's a difference between being hyped up and being a star. Lacy was hyped by American writers, broadcasters and fans to become a superstar with or without Calzaghe. Wasn't he on the cover of some major magazine out in America?what kind of hyped up fighter fights on jose luis castillo undercards? and on second rate showtime no less? he was a virtual unknown why can't you admit it? the writers picked him because calzaghe was seen as a senchenko type bum. not sure why you don't understand this. obviously calzaghe was better than advertised and lacy not as good as they thought but that doesn't mean he was some boxing star over here because he wasn't.
Why can't you admit that he was heavily hyped by Americans? They were the ones who labelled him as Mike Tyson and a future star of the sport, not Frank Warren lol. You don't have to downplay everything when it comes to Calzaghe.Comment
