Murray is definitely not a huge middleweight.

Sergio Martinez however is/was a very small middleweight who was caught between 160 and 154, and that's the only Murray fight most people have seen, so he probably seemed huge.

Golovkin and Murray are both quite modestly sized for their division.

Since Pavlik's reign and now that Chaves is too big, the MW landscape is pretty light in general. Makes sense, it's more attractive to fight comfortably in a prestige division than starve yourself into a super/junior division.

I agree here. The Middleweight division is where men like Robinson, Fullmer, Monzon, LaMotta, Graziano, Zale, Hagler, Greb, and Hopkins have made their legacy apart of boxing's history. An original weightclass, the combination of power and speed in a man the same size as the average male.

        More than a few.

But I agree with you he's not a big MW nor a small one.

Murray looked smaller than Sturm during the weigh-in and fight. When I think of big MW's, I think of Pavlik and Chavez, who killed themselves to make weight, unlike Murray who seems to be just fine making it.

Golovkin's regular sparring partners are LHW's & SMW's. Even Paul Mendez, who's a MW, is a good sized MW. Murray's size will be an irrelevant factor in this fight.

I dont think hed be comfortable at 154 or become a sww, but i think he could do it for a fight without being dead at the weight. Like naturally bigger Hopkins made 156 for Dlh without being too compromised

True. Maybe some super ignant GGG fans said that, but the true GGG fans no he's not a small middleweight. He's in the middle (of that pink).

In todays boxing even lightweights gain 20lbs after weigh in, and since GGG gains 11-12 lbs you can call him a "small" middleweight, but thats off course exagerration, haha

If he was at 174 30 days before a fight, that was with already weight training and being in the gym preparing. He was likely in the 180s in between, meaning he can at least go up to 168.
