Murray is definitely not a huge middleweight.
Sergio Martinez however is/was a very small middleweight who was caught between 160 and 154, and that's the only Murray fight most people have seen, so he probably seemed huge.
Golovkin and Murray are both quite modestly sized for their division.
Since Pavlik's reign and now that Chaves is too big, the MW landscape is pretty light in general. Makes sense, it's more attractive to fight comfortably in a prestige division than starve yourself into a super/junior division.
