Loads of Muhammed Ali's best wins are when the opponents were at the top of their game. Duran and Hagler wins for Leonard are slightly tainted.

SLR beat a great Duran -- even at WW he was great.

SLR beat Hagler. Even a draw (which was deserved) against Hagler is an achievement.

Speaking of "tainted wins", take a look at Ali's fights against Norton, Frazier and Henry Cooper. (Ali does not come out ahead. He LOST most those fights, regardless of what the judges said.)

I think with duran it's a little dubious because leonard even admitted that he made the rematch as soon as possible because he knew duran would have to drop a lot of weight. With Hagler it was a close fight and some have argued that he stole rounds by flurrying at the end of them

Duran always ballooned up in weight between fights; it's why he kept moving up in weight in the first place. His habits weren't a secret and they weren't unprecedented. He had even more time to prepare for the second fight than he had for the first.

          • Duran could not have carried Manny Pacquiao's jock strap.

            Fact.

oh god, just when i thought your agenda only extended to Ali and co. you go an denigrate another legend of the sport.

do explain how Duran ranks below Pacquiao. Not that i even need to say this but this was a man who ruled the lightweight division, jumped to welter and beat a prime Ray Leonard (one of the greatest all round boxers ever) and then went on to capture titles at 154 and 160. the 5''7 Duran beat a huge natural mw in iran barkely, a top fighter himself. Only ever stopped by Tommy Hearns, possibly p4p the most devastating puncher of all time.

              This should be good.

and btw I'm a big pac fan. his accomplishments are incredible. but career wise and in a fight at 135, Duran has him beat.

I definitely respect that opinion but imo in that scenario the guy I would cite is Duran. How would Roy have handled a guy who comes forward relentlessly, has an iron jaw, incredible all round skill set... That mythical p4p matchup is a wet dream for a boxing fan.

Leonard would be another pick for me. Those guys were just so strong all round, no one can match roys natural ability but Leonard and Duran dismantled all styles possible.

We know Roy can handle any boxer he's faster than (everyone lol), he clowned an elite one in Toney, but we never saw him in with an elite pressure fighter with the skill set to draw him into a firefight.
