Ward needs a fight too that a network will pay him for... or just get paid because he wants that cash
This is precisely why GGG should have tried to secure a fight with Kessler in Denmark over the last year instead of begging Cotto for a fight like a teenage girl begging a boy to call her.

Well he was rumored to get 7 figures in the past...probably not getting as much for his tune-ups with the premium networks here... because hey don't want it

Reeks of another retirement paycheck fight

There's a new generation at 160/168/175 for Ward to fight

He is retired but he said if a fight with someone like Ward or Froch could materialise, then MAYBE he could be drawn back in. He is basically retired unless he fights a big name (paycheck).

GGG hasn't been targetting any SMW, but when the Froch and Chavez fight was anounced he was game. Going after Kessler would've been arbitrary and out of the blue.

Kessler is almost surely too old and too unmotivated and rusty.

But after he warmed up, and before he got tired, in the middle rounds Kessler was schooling Froch in the second fight. He got in the grove and was really impressive, using his skills. The fight seemed very very close to me.

Honestly, I was far more impressed with Kessler than Froch in the second fight. Kessler also landed by far the most meaningful punch of the fight. He cracked Froch in the 11th, and had him very wobbly. I wouldn't call him dead and buried, but he's probably a bit too old. Ward will also be rusty.

And also, Kessler retired because he couldn't secure rematches with Froch or Ward. Well, since Ward is being denied beating on some bum, Kessler actually makes a ton of sense, so I could see this happening. I think he would come back, since he said he still wants to fight, if he can get someone like Froch or Ward.

It would be a pretty good fight for a so called tune-up for Ward.
