With Froch's future a bit up in the air and no definite opponent for a potential Vegas fight, an article I read got me thinking.
Let's go with the idea that there is three options, three big names that Froch could fight in Vegas:
- Chavez Jr
This would be a money fight, a more even matchup, and perhaps makes the most sense out of the three options...however, it has been hard to negotiate with Jr and this fight could well fall through.
- Golovkin
GGG could move up and he is willing too for the right fight, and actually this would more be a 'right' fight for GGG rather than Froch. I doubt Carl wants to deal with such a dangerous opponent at this stage of his career and a big loss wouldn't be a good way to end his career. It's too much risk, while GGG would potentially get a big reward. Besides, Gennady still has business at MW.
- Ward
Now, this is the interesting one. Ward is painfully inactive, and any of his remaining fanbase will continue eroding unless he fights big names. He isn't the most exciting fighter out there, and I don't think anyone wants to see him sporadically fighting some overmatched opposition. A fight against Ward would satisify Andre in terms of not having to leave the States, allow Froch to have his Vegas night, and also allow Froch to potentially avenge his only unavenged defeat and potentially bump up his career a notch, or for Ward to come back, win another belt by beating a top guy in the division and reinforce himself as the man in the 168 class, and also set himself up for big fights and make himself relevant again.
