Would be cool. Could just be called the triple crown champion or something and their would be one recognized champ. With three other title holders who would duke it out for a chance at the champ.

If WBO didnt join they would be irrelevant.

I'm not buying this for one second. Only a year ago the WBC came out and said unified champions will have to choose a belt.

I really am skeptical about this actually happening. Think about the money. How would they actually benefit from this deal?

If this happens, it would be one of best things, in recent times, to have happened in boxing in a very long time.

            Let's see action then! Gonzalez/Walters, Rigondeux/Santa Cruz, Golovkin/Cotto, Yamanaka/Payano, Kovalev/Stevenson, Grozd/Lebendev & Uchiyaama/Miura are all favoured by the fans, so why not?!

The biggest worry if the WBO don't get involved is that they could benefit from the inevitable boxing politics that will surround the one true champ system.

Say for example Cotto is the Middleweight champ proper, Golovkin is the man who should be challenger, but Cotto doesn't want to fight Golovkin, he wants to fight Canelo/Floyd (and Wbcibfwba want dem sanctioning fees) then GGG goes to the WBO and takes their belt. Suddenly you are looking at the 'one true champ' not being the true cham, and the WBO would be the main title in that division.

Best Case scenario is that WBO cave in the initial pressure when /if this union of the other three titles happen.

Generally the WBO goes along with unifications. In the case where they stripped Sergio Martinez after he beat Pavlik, it was because he also held the WBC JMW title, and per section 15 of the WBO bylaw, you can't hold a different belt in a different weight class - unless they give you an exception (for which GB paid a big pile of money for their golden prospect - Danny Jacobs to get a shot).

This touches on a really important point here.

Ultimately, there will always be a 'WBO' in this scenario. It doesn't have to be the actual WBO, it could be the IBO or even an organisation that doesn't exist yet.

But there will always be one, because there will always be a demand for a mechanism that allows fighters to escape the restrictions of the 'one-champ' system.

To flip your scenario on its head, what happens if the unified body actually does have credible and transparent ratings, and actually does enforce mandatory bouts.

A lot of big name fighters aren't going to like that, certainly not Cotto in your example, so they will seek out another body that is more accommodating.

In the end, a unified body is only a band-aid. That system can only work if all other belt awarding organisations are banned. Which requires government intervention, which isn't likely to happpen.
