You know damn well if you were cotto and you believe you might get another crack at floyd if negotiations between him n pac don't work you'd wait for the outcome also. It's the smart thing to do legacy wise and monetary wise. Floyd would do way more for his legacy if cotto were to win (again I'm not saying hed win) than canelo would who already got shut out by floyd and alot of people thing lost vs lara
They had to set a deadline. They had already given in to all of Cottos demands. They needed to know if Cotto was willing to fight. Remember that Floyds people were reaching out to Cotto. DLH could not wait and wait on Cotto only to see him make a backhand deal to fight Floyd. It's for this reason he set the deadline.

This is all about Cotto being the shady guy he is. If he wanted the fight he would have had it. He clearly didn't.

You guys are acting as if cotto called off the canelo fight he didn't the negotiations were still on the table before canelo decided he didn't wanna wait.
There's also the financial side to consider, if Cotto turned down GBP's best possible deal then really what is left to discuss?

Look at the Klitch Jennings negotiations. Klitch unhappy it was taking too long so he started to look for other opponents. He didn't call off the fight but he did start looking elsewhere. This is how rational ppl negotiate. Why harm yourself by canceling a fight that you want, if it is still possible?

Canelo can find a marketable opponent anytime he wants. There are tons of fighters of all types that will take that fight on short notice. If time was an issue like Canelo supporters claim, then Oscar would've been the one calling the fight off, not Canelo.

Put yourself in Canelo's position. You've been negotiating the fight for months. You've given in to several demands. You made it clear that you won't be competing against a May/Pac fight. If May/Pac happened you'd move the date to June and fight in NYC. You've agreed to all the terms and have been waiting for weeks on the guy to sign.

Suddenly you hear that Mayweathers advisor has been reaching out to Cotto for a fight. You start to wonder if this is why the fight still not signed? Is Cotto going to make me wait and then make a backhand deal at the last minute to fight Floyd and leave me with no opponent? So you tell Oscar Give him a deadline. We can't afford to get screwed. Either he wants to fight us or not but we're not going to be jerked around.

          This is exactly what happened.

so what if Floyd/pac does happen. then what is cotto gonna do? fight Bradley for shorter money than he would have made against canelo? or fight his mandatory ggg and get his ass kicked for shorter money than he would have got against canelo?

if the may/pac fight happens then cotto just bluffed his self out of the biggest payday possible and he will have too give up that wbc or fight his mandatory

He won't fight GGG. You already have all the Cotto fans saying Canelo should fight GGG even though Cotto is his mandatory. They don't want to see their diva get hurt.

Cotto's team response is telling, they don't seem to care much - "Cotto doesn't need Alvarez for his career" was the statement.

Why can't he just wait a couple days to see what happens with pac and Floyd. Cotto knows he can't go against that ppv and he's waiting to see what happens and if pac vs floyd doesn't get made he gets another chance to take Floyds 0 ( not saying hed win) and that fight would do way more for his legacy anyways. Now even if pac and Floyddoes happen canelo just lost his other biggest payday.

bro for the last time their will never be 2 fights on ppv on the same night.

if Floyd fights pac. canelo wont fight may 2.
if Floyd fights khan or cotto. then canelo will fight may 2 on regular hbo

How is it bluffed? He was waiting for floyd to make his decision. If the fight does happen then he was banking on fighting canelo in june. Canelo is the one that decided to call it off prematurely. Who is canelo gonna fight Kirkland who the casuals know nothing about or clottey?
